Sightings Reported
Sight UFO at Bushnell (Macomb Illinois JOURNAL, 5 Sept 1970)
Two young men from Bushnell, Illinois, Allen Robinson (22) and Steve St. Clair (20), reported a convincing UFO sighting on Thursday night, September 5, 1970. While en route home from Macomb, they spotted an object hovering over the McDonough 7-8 grain bins in the southwest part of Bushnell around 9 pm. Robinson estimated the object's size to be comparable to an average automobile and its altitude to be approximately 300 feet. The object emitted a blinding white light, obscuring its shape. Initially sighted as they approached Bushnell from the west on Route 9, the object remained stationary over the grain bins until they drove towards the farm elevator property to investigate. Upon reaching within two blocks, the object began to move erratically. Robinson noted that the light dimmed momentarily before the object turned bright again and accelerated westward at a high rate of speed, disappearing from view in about 30 seconds.
UFO Reported Sighted Here (Hattoon, Ill., JOUREL-GAZETCS, 9 Sept 1970)
Mrs. James Turner of 1100 Rudy reported a sighting on Monday night, September 7, 1970, around 11:15 pm. She observed a wingless, low-flying, oval-shaped object approximately 50 feet above her television antenna. The object was flying from south to southwest over her yard and appeared to be dodging something. Mrs. Turner, who viewed the object through her glass storm door and then opened it for a clearer view, described it as being made of some type of unpainted metal, not an airplane. She noted that it had four small sources of light along its left side, resembling wind chimes. Crucially, she stated that the object left no streaks of light or exhaust trail in its wake.
Thing with a Flashing Red Nose (Bournemouth EVENING SOPO, United Kingdom 9/14/70)
An unidentified flying object described as cigar-shaped with a red flashing nose was reported over Purley on Saturday night, September 14, 1970, by a Boscombe woman. Mrs. J. Gilbert, of Grismere Road, Boscombe, informed Ringwood police about the sighting. At 11 pm, she observed a starlike object travelling towards her from a north-northeast direction. The object moved over a wood at Will Lawn, then proceeded vertically, stopped, and then travelled in a southerly direction. It stopped again before moving towards her, at which point it displayed a red flashing nose and its cigar shape became apparent. Finally, it moved off in the direction of Highcliffe.
Recurring Themes and Editorial Stance
The recurring theme throughout this issue is the presentation of eyewitness accounts of unidentified flying objects, presented as evidence to counter skepticism. The editorial stance, implied by the title and introductory statement, is that these sightings are real and significant, aiming to convince readers who may have previously doubted such phenomena. The publication serves as a platform for sharing and validating these experiences.
