60 Unidentified Aircraft Tracked Over Tucson
Reprinted from The Arizona Daily Star, this article by Daniel R. Browning details an incident on Monday, October 7, 1985, where Tucson International Airport radar detected approximately 60 unidentified aircraft. An air-traffic controller monitored these objects for about 90 minutes as they moved southwest of the city and then northeasterly. The objects were observed in 15 groups of four to six, traveling at about 250 knots (288 mph). Federal authorities stated they were not investigating because if they were airplanes, no laws were broken. A police helicopter pilot attempted to identify the objects but was unsuccessful. Sgt. Doug Russell reported that the pilot saw lights but could not catch up. The objects were estimated to be at altitudes between 4,000 and 7,000 feet. Coral Lorenzen of the Aerial Phenomena Research Organization (APRO), a Tucson-based group, noted the unusual nature of the sighting, with clusters of aircraft traveling in waves, stating, "We've never had anything like this." She also mentioned receiving about 20 calls from people claiming to have seen the aircraft.

BOLS Discussed at St. Charles Meeting
John Roppolo reports on the September and October meetings of the St. Charles Committee, which focused on a two-part article in Fate Magazine titled "Seeing the Lights" by Hillary Evans. The article discusses luminous "balls of light" (BOLs) reported worldwide, which can manifest in various ways. Some BOLs are described as taking an interest in human welfare, while others have exhibited "malicious" behavior. The St. Charles Committee meets on the third Tuesday of each month at the Bonanza Sirloin Pit in St. Charles.
Low Level Glowing Objects Seen in Cuba
Bruce Widaman describes a Skywatch event held on October 19 in Cuba, MO, where glowing objects were observed close to the ground. These objects disappeared when participants turned on flashlights and were later identified as "glow worms." The event included a tour of astronomer Charles Capen's observatory. The next skywatch is tentatively scheduled for Festus, MO.
