UFO Sighting Report: 1970

A detailed account is provided by Olle Holmqvist, who lives in Arboga and works at FMV. He recounts an incident from a clear winter night in 1970, between 01:00 and 02:00, while driving with a friend between Sala and Uppsala. Near Isätra, they noticed an intense light that was not from streetlights but from above. The light followed them as they drove. Upon turning onto Arnebovägen, Holmqvist woke his sleeping companion, and they stopped the car to investigate.

They observed a black point with a light emission around it, shaped like a parachute with the black point at the bottom. This was perceived as a craft. Rays of light emanated upwards from the black point along the sides of the parachute-shaped light. When the craft stopped, the light became round and more diffuse. The phenomenon then moved north, following the earth's orbit towards the horizon before disappearing. The observation lasted approximately 5-10 minutes. The distance was estimated to be about 2 miles, though this was difficult to ascertain. The observers theorized that the radiation was related to a magnetic field that enabled the craft's movement.

Holmqvist's father later revealed that he had seen a cigar-shaped, bluish-white craft in 1916 or 1918. Olle Holmqvist stated that without his companion as a witness in 1970, he would not have reported the sighting.

Other Sections

Observations: The summer was generally quiet regarding UFO observations. Georg Lundevall, the investigator, had no new information to report. The magazine urges members to report any sightings.
