Diskette Service 1996 No. 4 Announcement

Technical Information and Usage Instructions

To update your hard drive with the new texts from the diskette, it is a prerequisite to have installed the "Info" Text Database program, which was previously distributed. Instructions are provided for accessing the diskette's contents:

• Transferring Images: To transfer the northern lights images (NORDLYS1.EXE, NORDLYS2.EXE, NORDLYS3.EXE) to the PICT catalog, type `C:\>A:PICT`. These .EXE files can be viewed by typing their names after navigating to the `_PICT` directory.
• Updating the Info Text Database: To automatically update the Info Text Database with texts from UFO-Nyt and SUFOI Nyhedsbrev, type `C:\>A:OPDATER` while in the root directory (C:\>).
• Using the Info System: The Info system is started by typing `C:> INFO`. It presents a self-explanatory menu system. Further details are available in the `INFO.TXT` file within the main menu. If the program doesn't start, an alternative method is provided: `C:\>CD_UFONYT` followed by `C:\UFONYT > INFO`.
• Accessing UFO-Nyt 1996 Texts: Navigate to the line starting with ">964" on the first menu page and press Enter to access all texts from UFO-Nyt 1996.
• Accessing SUFOI Nyhedsbrev: Navigate to the line starting with ">NYHED" on the first menu page and press Enter to access the different issues of the newsletter.
• Accessing the "Dobbeltmåner" Report: The report is available in Microsoft Word format (DMÅNE.DOC) and WordPerfect 5.1 format (DMÅNE.WP).
• Transferring Observation Databases: To transfer all observation database files to your hard disk, type `C:\>A:OBS`. This will create an OBS catalog containing dBase IV files (OBS1996.DBF, OBS1996.NDX) and ASCII text files (OBS1996A.TXT, OBS1996B.TXT). The text files list observations from 1996 in formats of 150 and 70 characters per line, respectively. Information for each observation includes Date, Time (DNT = Danish Normal Time, DST = Danish Summer Time), Duration, Location, Number of Witnesses, Colors, and possible Identification (ID1/ID2). The information for international exchange is in English.
