This issue of "Notizie C.U.N." is a circular informative bulletin from the Secretariat of the National Ufological Center (C.U.N.), providing updates on its activities and recent developments in the field of ufology.
Secretariat Operations and Communications
The Secretariat of the C.U.N. announces that despite the usual summer slowdown, its operations will continue without interruption thanks to a coordinated schedule of staggered holidays among staff. For urgent communications during August, members are directed to contact Massimo Nebbia or Alberto Garino. The bulletin emphasizes the importance of maintaining the Center's normal functioning and encourages members to focus on productive activities, disregarding distractions from those with other interests.
Received Materials
In the past month, the C.U.N. has received a significant amount of journalistic material and investigation reports from various collaborators. The Secretariat expresses gratitude to Lorenzo Bartoli, Marco Bottaini, Guido Antonio Carione, Alessandro Cortellazzi, Marcello Crino, Vittorio Crosa, Alessandro Le Foche, Michele Sisti, and Massimo Valloscuro. Special mention is made of Maurizio Verga's work in collecting and archiving newspaper clippings from 1947, 1950, 1952, and 1954.
- Several investigation reports are highlighted:
- A 6-page report from Solas Boncompagni (S.U.F. - Florence) on the Istrana case (TV) from November 1973.
- A detailed 16-page investigation by Guido Antonio Carione (Capaccio Scalo - SA) on a recent IR-O case in Trentinara (SA) from June 19, 1984.
- 116 pages of sighting reports and related material from Marcel Delaval (CUFOC - Ispra) concerning sightings from June 6, 1983.
- 9 investigations by Luigi Di Ruzza (G.S.E. - Cassino) into cases in the Frosinone province between 1971 and 1981 (17 pages).
- 7 pages of supplementary reports by Paolo Toselli (Alessandria) on the Varzi (PV) case from June 5, 1983.
- Reports by Maurizio Verga (Cermenate - CO) on two cases from 1951 in Genoa and Addis Abeba.
- Emanuele Schembri (Gela - CL) provided a provincial catalog of Caltanissetta, detailing 24 cases from 1954 to 1983 with essential data.
- An update to the provincial catalog of Como (9 cases, 6 pages) was compiled by Maurizio Verga, who also updated the INT CAT (Italian landing case catalog) with 27 pages.
- Massimo Greco (Brescia), Piero Tolomei (Viareggio), and Paolo Toselli (Alessandria) have procured copies of foreign books and publications that will be made available.
Publications Received
- In addition to previous listings, the following ufological publications have been received:
- DOCUMENTI UFO MONOGRAFIE: The third volume of this periodic series from the CUN Rome office is dedicated to hypnosis in ufology, including a translation of A. H. Lawson's "imaginary abductions," a study by GEPAN, and a bibliography.
- UFOLOGIA: A critical and informative periodical, supplement to CLYPEUS, with issue #15 offering a commentary on "new French ufology."
- UPIAR RESEARCH IN PROGRESS: An international scientific quarterly. Acknowledgements
The C.U.N. thanks Pier Paolo Pauletti and Marcello Pupilli for their financial support. Gratitude is also extended to several collaborators from the Turin office for their assistance with Secretariat activities: Mario Lorenzati, Paolo Sordano, Andrea Micela, Giovanni Platania, and Manfredi Orgera.
Brief News and Corrections
Registered Mail: All correspondents are requested not to send letters and materials via registered mail to PO Box 82 to avoid delays and bureaucratic issues.
- Corrections:
- Issue #0: The publisher of the book on Zanfretta is Alkaest, not Alcaez.
- Issue #1: The provincial catalog of Pavia was compiled by Claudio Cavallini, not Claudio C. The telephone information about the Baia Domitia case came from Gennaro Aiberico (Marcianise - CE), not Guido Antonio Carione.
- Issue #2: The 1984 subscription to NOTIZIARIO UFO runs from issue #102 to #107, not #103 to #108.
Activities
- UFO and Computer: The use of computers in ufology is growing in Italy. Beyond local case codification and address management, two significant bibliographic indexing projects are underway:
- Massimo Greco (Brescia) is creating an analytical index of all published ufological material (Italian and foreign magazines and books) in his possession using an Apple II.
- Marco Bottaini (Pescia - PT) has created a magnetic archive (on IBM-34) of summaries from various Italian ufological publications, including author, title, magazine, year, issue, page, and main topic of each article. He has produced a 76-page tabulation of approximately 2,500 articles, ordered alphabetically by author.
The Secretariat invites anyone with computer access to contact them with details of their hardware and magnetic media to coordinate a network of "personal computers" for decentralized magnetic archives.
Donations of Ufological Material to Libraries: Maurizio Verga (Cermenate - CO) proposes donating ufology books (new or used) or old magazines to local civic libraries. Donors should include their name and contact information inside the material, encouraging recipients to share sightings or other information. This initiative aims to reach a broader audience potentially interested in the subject.
Dossiering of Press News 1978
1978 was a particularly rich year for ufological case data and information in newspapers. The C.U.N. had hoped to order and archive thousands of newspaper clippings from that period. Camillo Michieletto is diligently sorting, dividing, and dossiering the material for the 1978 Press Archive. So far, several hundred items from January to May, and part of September, have been archived. It is expected that the remaining months, including the extensive November and December archives, will be completed by the end of summer. This hidden but monumental work is recognized and appreciated.
Information
- Seeking Old Books: Alberto Garino (Via Bardonecchia 14, Villaggio Aurora, 10040 Rivalta, tel. 011-90.90.194) is looking to purchase the following ufology books:

Anyone with extra copies or knowledge of where to find these books is asked to contact Alberto Garino.
NOTIZIARIO UFO: The publication of NOTIZIARIO UFO #103 (March-April 1984) has been delayed due to European elections, as the printing press prioritized political publications. The latest information indicates the issue will be printed after July 15th.
Recurring Themes and Editorial Stance
The recurring themes in this issue revolve around the operational continuity of ufological research organizations during holiday periods, the importance of systematic data collection and archiving (both journalistic and case-specific), and the increasing role of technology, particularly computers, in managing ufological information. The C.U.N. maintains a stance of diligent, ongoing research and information sharing, encouraging collaboration and the dissemination of ufological knowledge through various channels, including libraries. There is a clear emphasis on productive work and a discouragement of distractions or non-ufological pursuits.
