The descriptions of the mutilations are graphic, detailing gaping holes where body parts were removed, and incisions leading down the leg. The author notes the similarity to cases he witnessed in Alabama in 1992 and 1993.

The author questions the cause, considering devil worshippers, aliens, or coyotes, but leans towards "tax dollars at work" as the most plausible explanation, questioning why the Barton Ranch is a target. By August 1997, fifteen mutilations had occurred on the ranch.
