Magazine Overview
This issue of "CASE BRIEFS: EXPLORATIONS & REVIEW" from the MUTUAL UFO NETWORK, Northern California Affiliate, dated November / December 1994 (Issue #3), focuses on UFO investigations and personal accounts. The cover headline highlights a "COMMENTARY ON THE USAF ROSWELL INVESTIGATION REPORT" by Virgil Staff.
Commentary on the USAF Roswell Investigation Report
Virgil Staff, MUFON No. California State Director, critically examines the USAF's 1994 report on the Roswell incident. He suggests that the Air Force's assertion that this would be its final report was an attempt to protect its image and defend its long-held position, implying that any deviation would mean admitting to decades of fraudulent statements and deception of the public and Congress. Staff posits that significant UFO cases were often not investigated by Project Blue Book but by other entities, possibly within the intelligence establishment. He speculates that Roswell files may have been destroyed or transferred to other organizations, or reclassified at a higher level.
Waiting for the Saucers (Part I)
Allen Dunkin, State Section Director for San Joaquin and Stanislaus Counties, presents an exclusive report on recent cases in his investigative area. He recounts an incident on August 27, 1993, where Tuolomne County Sheriff's and Firefighters received calls about an airplane crash. Witnesses described a flaming object traveling east, crashing with a golden flash. Further south, witnesses reported a large green ball of flame. Dunkin investigated the area but found no evidence of a crash. During his investigation, he observed a truck carrying a large metal box labeled "M-12," which he humorously speculated could be a "crashed saucer." He also interviewed a couple who described the event not as an airplane crash but as a "flying saucer," and who recalled seeing a similar fireball about ten years prior.
Historical Sightings and Regional Anomalies
The issue also includes a historical account from "UFO's: A History 1896" by Loren E. Gross, detailing a strange encounter near Knight's Ferry in Stanislaus County on November 22, 1896. Two Methodist ministers witnessed an object described as a ball of fire that rose, flew low, and then made a half-circle maneuver before speeding away. The object displayed points of intense white light on its "nose" and rear.
Tuolomne County is highlighted as an area with a history of strangeness, including reports of a mysterious secret society, the Sonora Aero Club, Bigfoot sightings, the 1896 Airship flap, and modern-day abductions. A case from September 1993 describes a young lady who followed a bright white light to a hill where a craft landed. The craft was described as birthday-cake shaped with a criss-cross landing support and pulsating lights. After the craft emitted heat, the witness experienced eight hours of unaccounted time and developed physical symptoms including burns and puncture marks.
Case Briefs: Clear Lake, July 10, 1993
This case involves Renzie and Maurice, who observed a large, pulsating bright white luminosity over School Teacher Hill in Clear Lake, California. They estimated its size to be ten or more times larger than a typical planet, possibly the size of a standard automobile. The luminosity moved, and a small reddish light was ejected from its bottom, which then flew off towards the north. The footage was captured on a JVC camcorder.
Case 2: The Perils of Kathleen (Part 2)
Kathleen recounts early anomalous experiences from her childhood in Guerneville, California. She describes seeing small white balls descending like raindrops into the Russian River. Later, in November 1970, she witnessed a "boomerang thing" with four portholes that appeared black underneath and burned off fog as it moved. She also describes experiencing extreme terror and paralysis on three occasions, during which she saw figures walk through her bedroom wall.
Kathleen's experiences include a sighting of a blue-skinned Being with a large bald head and huge round eyes, which she believes may represent a dual human/alien soul. She also describes an abduction experience where she was taken to the "dark side of the moon" and learned to use an energy-emitting weapon. She feels that some Beings are inter-dimensional while others are extraterrestrial.
Interview: Katharina Wilson, Author of "The Alien Jigsaw"
Laura Steiger interviews Katharina Wilson, author of "The Alien Jigsaw." Wilson explains her motivations for going public: to share unique abduction experiences, including encounters with beings other than Greys and phenomena like teaching dreams, and experiences involving apparent military/government interaction. She notes that many abductees feel alienated from the "mainstream abduction case" due to these less common elements. Wilson discusses her belief that abductions are not solely caused by mass hallucinations or psychological issues, and she questions the possibility of ongoing human experimentation by military or government entities, drawing parallels to historical unethical experiments.
Wilson prefers the term "abductee" and states that 45% of her experiences were neutral. She finds dealing with the possibility of never knowing the truth behind the abduction phenomenon to be the most difficult aspect. She also expresses concern for the safety of her pets, though she believes she may be projecting her own fears onto them. Wilson shares her childhood fascination with astronomy and her current spiritual beliefs, which center around the equality of all life and a vegetarian diet driven by love for animals.
She describes her most unusual experience as being taken to the "dark side of the moon" and her belief that some entities are inter-dimensional and others extraterrestrial.

Case Briefs: Explorations & Review
England and Scotland Crop Circle Tour
During late July, Ruben Uriarte, UFO/Paranormal Coordinator for Above All Travel, led a group of 14 people on a "crop circle tour" through England. Organized by Above All Travel in conjunction with the former Triad Research Foundation, the tour visited areas where crop circles have recently appeared, as well as past sites. The group had the opportunity to attend the Crop Circle Conference in Andover and met with local investigators and scientists, including Colin Andrews. Investigative journalist George Knapp was also part of the tour, assisting with the filming of a documentary.
Highlights included seeing famous crop circles dubbed "the eye," "the galaxy," and "scorpion." One Wednesday night near Golden Ball Hill, the group observed strange lights that glowed a bright, golden amber. Using binoculars and night scopes, they identified them as half-dome shaped objects. A day and a half later, a crop circle named "the galaxy" was discovered in a field near where the lights had been sighted.
Before returning to the states, the group visited Scotland and met with UFO researchers. Scottish investigator Ron Halliday reported that shortly after the group's departure, four crop circles appeared in Kingnussie, and another appeared an hour's drive away. This summer produced more crop circles in Scotland than had appeared in a long time.
Puerto Rico Tour
A few months after the England trip, Ruben went to Puerto Rico on a tour also organized by Above All Travel. This tour included Jorge Martin, UFO Researcher and Editor of Evidencia Ovni. The group of ten, mostly MUFON members, visited places like Laguna Cartegena, where they interviewed people who reported sightings of strange craft entering or leaving the lagoon. There is a belief that underground bases exist under Laguna Cartegena and off Puerto Rico's southwestern coast.
During the tour, reports included sightings of triangular craft and Bigfoot creatures. Fishermen reported that saucer-shaped craft were frequently seen entering and leaving the ocean along Puerto Rico's coasts. Ruben observed that the UFO phenomenon is generally accepted as a reality by most of the populace in Puerto Rico.
Healings and Abductions
Group members were surprised by the number of stories they heard about healings that sometimes occurred when people were abducted and taken onboard alien spacecraft. It seemed common for people to know someone who had been taken and healed. One account mentioned a young man whose chronic childhood asthma attacks were cured after being abducted and operated on by aliens. Other individuals reported similar cures for their diseases.
Amaury Rivera and the UFO Photographs
A highlight of the Puerto Rico visit was spending time with Amaury Rivera, the young man who took the famous photographs of a UFO and F-14 Tomcats several years ago. Although some believe the photos are hoaxed (MUFON's official position), Ruben had an opportunity to speak with Amaury, who expressed frustration that no official agency has informed him if the photos are considered a hoax, and that they are being reproduced and sold without his permission.
El Yunque and Aero Drome
During a visit to the El Yunque rain forest area, Jorge Martin mentioned that over 700 cases of sightings or abductions had been reported in El Yunque alone. In the Cabo Rojo region, the group explored an area near the Aero Drome, a white unmarked surveillance blimp used by the DEA for drug smuggling prevention. However, there are reports that the Aero Drome is actually used for UFO surveillance and flies over Laguna Cartegena and the coastline where many sightings have been reported. A sign in the area read: "Advertencia. Esta Acercandose A Propiedad Federal Restricta Uso De Fuerza Mortal Esta Authorizado En Esta Area," which translates to a federally restricted area where deadly force is authorized for trespassers.
Anomalous Experience in 1970
An interesting report was shared by a ninety-one-year-old man who, in 1970, came home to find 5 aliens standing in his living room. He chased them out with a stick, and has not seen them since, though two of his daughters have had anomalous experiences.
Ruben's trips were filled with adventures, and Above All Travel is planning more UFO-related tours for 1995, including trips to Puerto Rico and England & Scotland.
