Directors Message

BOSCAWEN FLYING V

This section provides a detailed case log of investigations into the 'flying "V"' sightings that occurred in Boscawen, New Hampshire. The log begins with a call on January 19, 1990, from Stephen and Linda Hassan, NH MUFON members, reporting a formation of low-flying lights with no sound at 12:00 PM. Subsequent calls from the Hassans on February 7 and 14, 1990, reported similar formations at 7:00 PM and 6:30 PM, respectively. A pattern of Wednesday sightings was noted.

On February 21, 1990, an NH MUFON team on-site in Boscawen observed a 'V' formation of white lights. Additionally, a large white light was seen emitting a blue beam towards the ground, and a photo was taken.

Another NH MUFON team observed a similar 'V' formation on February 28, 1990. The Boscawen Police Chief also witnessed the formation from the team's observation point. Attempts to photograph the formation were hampered by slow-speed film.

On March 14, 1990, Stephen Hassan successfully recorded the formation of lights. A woman in Boscawen reportedly video recorded the formation, noting that while the visual aspect was not clear, the audio was good.

On March 21, 1990, the NH MUFON team observed another 'V' formation. During this observation, 'Organized DISRUPTERS' reportedly harassed the team, and local police were notified.

The final entry for this case on March 28, 1990, describes an NH MUFON team on-site in Boscawen, joined by members of Mass MUFON. Successful photos of the formation were captured using a 300 MM lens and ASA 3200 color print film. Time-lapse photography revealed two large white lights at the front of the 'V' formation, accompanied by four sets of red and green lights forming the 'V' shape. Crucially, the analysis concluded that 'all lights were not part of one large craft' because the pairs of lights did not follow the same flight path.

CASE LOG

January 10, 1991 Sighting

A married couple driving north on Rt. 95 near the Massachusetts-New Hampshire border at approximately 8:30 or 9:00 PM reported seeing three flashing red lights in the distance. Initially mistaken for a new radio or TV antenna, the lights were soon identified as being part of a triangle formation, flashing in sequence. The lights were on the bottom of a disc-shaped craft hovering motionless about eighty feet over the northbound lane. The disc was tilted, revealing a dome on top as the couple drove underneath it. Other vehicles had stopped or slowed down, and one driver had parked his car to get a better view. No reaction was noted from the car's electrical systems. The couple proceeded to a ski resort without further incident.

The newsletter notes that several similar sightings were reported throughout Southern New Hampshire and Northern Massachusetts on the same night, and investigators were checking them out, with a report planned for the Manchester meeting.

January 31, 1991 Sighting

A woman in Londonderry, New Hampshire, was awakened at 3:59 AM by a loud noise. She observed a large object, described as being 'as big as a house', hovering near her home. The object resembled a fluted pie plate with blue, white, and green lights. She also noted a strange red light or red glow. As the object departed, it made a sound similar to a helicopter.
