Magazine Overview
This document is the August 1989 issue, number 10, of the MUFON (Mutual UFO Network) Newsletter for New Hampshire. It is published by MUTUAL UFO NETWORK, INC., with a mailing address in Rye, NH.
Directors Message
The newsletter opens with a message from Peter R. Geremia, NH State Director. He announces the first annual New Hampshire MUFON picnic, scheduled for Sunday, September 10, 1989, from 2 PM to 7 PM at his residence in Rye. He describes it as a BYO (Bring Your Own) event with a gas grill available, welcoming MUFON members, friends, acquaintances, and interested folks for a time to visit and talk about UFOs. He also mentions nearby beaches for those who wish to come early.
Geremia also shares news about New Hampshire MUFON members. Mr. John P. Oswald has been asked to submit a paper to the Pensacola Symposium. Noted author Mr. John G. Fuller, known for 'Incident at Exeter' and 'The Interrupted Journey,' is working on another New Hampshire story, which may appear in 'Reader's Digest' or similar publications, and he might also write another book on UFO activity in the state.
The message concludes by informing members about an enclosed ballot. They are asked to vote on whether to approve a $5.00 annual surcharge to help fund the NH MUFON Newsletter, which is published approximately four times a year. The State Director will publish the newsletter, and any leftover funds will be allocated to NH MUFON projects or research activities. The results of the ballot will be published in the next newsletter.
Finally, Geremia highlights that Page Two contains the activity log submitted by Cheryl Powell, the State Section Director for Hillsborough and Merrimack Counties, commending her and her team for their busy efforts.
He also welcomes the following new New Hampshire MUFON members: Dr. Todd Lyon of Goffstown, Ann Marie Tessier of Derry, Melissa F. Halsey of Center Hbr., Donna Craig of Concord, and Stephen Hassan of Penacook.
Activity Log
Page Two of the newsletter presents an extensive activity log of UFO sightings and encounters reported in New Hampshire between January 1988 and April 1989. The log, compiled by Cheryl Powell, details date, time, classification (CE I, CE III), place, number of witnesses, and a description of the event.
Notable entries include:
- January 1988: A bright bar of light in Londonderry; 3 blinking lights ejecting light to the ground; a milky green object streaked across the sky (possibly a meteor).
- July 1988: A bright white light with silver top and middle, dull metal bottom, spinning and dropping from the sky to below tree line in Peabody; a bright light traveling south and hovering over Lahey Clinic in Wakefield.
- November 1988: An object at 500' altitude, size of a compact car, black matte color, observed in Derry.
- December 1988: An anonymous call by an off-duty police officer about a UFO in a sand pit with beings seen in Londonderry; an anonymous call supporting the previous report; a circular object with a dome and windows, described as a silver craft with entities having large hairless heads in white uniforms, hovered in Windham; an object pulsing bright then dim in Londonderry; a cylindrical object with several lights and abrupt course changes in Londonderry; a cylindrical object with lights moving slowly over a house in Londonderry; several white oval lights flying around each other in Salem; a bar of white lights (25-30') followed a car home in Londonderry.
- January 1989: An object hovering over a field in Londonderry, emitting bright green, blue, yellow, white lights that shot up at a 45-degree angle; three oval white lights flying parallel to Route 111 in Derry; a flash of bright light from outside to inside a house in Candia.
- April 1989: An orange light shaped like a football, as big as a compact car, hovered over pine trees in East Derry; an object with 3 blinking lights, L-shaped, buzzed a car and gave chase but always seemed to slip away in Windham; a round orange object, later seen as a string of white lights with spinning lights in the middle, moved sideways before a picture could be taken in Londonderry; a bright light flying past a house in Derry, which would get bright then dim, with fast movement, and the witness found a strange burn mark on their back, unsure if UFO-related.
Ballot
A separate page presents the ballot for members to vote on the proposed $5.00 annual surcharge. It reiterates that the funds will be used for the NH MUFON Newsletter and potentially for NH MUFON projects or research activities. Members are asked to mark 'AGREE' or 'DISAGREE' and provide their signature and printed name.
Map
The final page is a map of the Rye, New Hampshire area, with an inset showing the specific location of 571 Brackett Rd, Rye, NH, the residence of Pete & Fran Geremia, including their phone number. The map details local roads and landmarks, indicating the picnic location.
Recurring Themes and Editorial Stance
The newsletter reflects a strong focus on local UFO/UAP activity within New Hampshire, as evidenced by the detailed activity log. The editorial stance appears to be one of active investigation and community engagement, promoting local meetings (the picnic) and encouraging member participation through ballots and reports. There is a clear effort to maintain communication with members and to fund ongoing activities and research. The inclusion of a specific address and map for the picnic reinforces the local and community-oriented nature of the chapter.
THIS WILL BE A GREAT TIME TO VISIT AND TALK UFOS.
