Magazine Overview

The Minnesota MUFON Journal, Issue #132, dated July/August 2008, is a publication from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) focusing on UFO phenomena. The issue's cover headline, "Do UFOs Perform Medical Miracles?" by Dick Moss, sets the tone for a significant portion of the content, exploring alleged instances of alien intervention in human health.

Do UFOs Perform Medical Miracles?

This article presents several anecdotal accounts of UFO-related healings. One story describes a woman with a skin disease who was taken to a UFO by a psychic and received an injection from an entity, leading to improvement. Another case involves a woman dying of cancer who experienced a spontaneous cure after a beam of light from a UFO illuminated her internal tumor. A deputy sheriff in Texas had swelling on his finger disappear after a UFO shone a light on it. A doctor, partially paralyzed from a war injury, was also reportedly healed by a UFO in 1968 after a strange encounter involving lights and an object that dematerialized. The article suggests that these healings might occur for the benefit of the visitors, possibly to keep abductees alive for further exploitation. It references Wilson Graham's article "Amazing Case Histories: Miracle Cures and UFOs" from Ideal's UFO Magazine #11 (August 1980) and Preston Dennett's book "UFO Healings" (1996) as further sources.

Is The Vatican Easing Humanity Toward Alien Disclosure?

Authored by Thomas Horn, this article discusses recent statements by Vatican astronomers, particularly Father Jose Gabriel Funes, who suggested that the existence of intelligent life elsewhere in the universe does not contradict religious faith. This is presented as part of a broader trend of Vatican officials acknowledging the possibility of extraterrestrial intelligence. The article references previous comments by Monsignor Corrado Balducci and hints at information held by the Vatican regarding ET interaction. It also touches upon the work of Father Malachi Martin, who spoke of knowledge within the Vatican concerning approaching events in space. The piece questions whether these public statements are a deliberate effort to "warm-up" the public to ET disclosure. It also notes the Vatican's plans to host a conference on evolution, suggesting a broader embrace of scientific inquiry. The article explores the potential implications of ET discovery, including a spiritual identity crisis, but also notes that some research suggests people are ready for such a revelation. It briefly touches on how different religions might accommodate an ET reality, with Muslim and Jewish leaders being open, while Russian Orthodoxy excluded it.

The CE4 Corner

Written by Craig R. Lang, this section discusses reactions to the UFO phenomenon and the concept of close encounters. Lang shares his experience presenting on UFOs to the Parliament of World Religions, noting that while beliefs varied, no one found contact impossible. He emphasizes the importance of critical thinking and personal discernment when evaluating extraordinary claims. Lang recommends "The Sturrock Report" and "Passport to the Cosmos" by Dr. John E. Mack for further study. He also reflects on the documentary "Jesus Camp" and the tendency for people to believe their own worldview is factually correct, highlighting the value of cross-cultural exposure and challenging one's own beliefs.

UFOs and Religion/Demons

This section explores the historical and theological interpretations of UFOs. It notes that NASA's statements about potential life on Mars are not seen as unraveling traditional biblical convictions. Representatives from the Islamic and Jewish communities express openness to the discovery of extraterrestrial life. However, a contrasting view is presented by Christian writers like Hal Lindsey and Gary Kinnaman, who believe UFOs and their occupants (UFOnauts) are supernatural in origin, specifically demons or angels of darkness, citing that UFO experiences do not lead people closer to God. Associate Professor Elizabeth L. Hillstrom's book "Testing the Spirits" is mentioned, supporting the idea that UFOnauts are synonymous with historical demons, drawing parallels with demonic activity. Veteran researcher John Keel is cited as concluding that UFO manifestations are variations of demonological phenomena. Conversely, other theologians suggest UFOs could represent good angels, while alien abductions align with demonic activity.

Canada to build World's First Asteroid-hunting Satellite

This article reports on the Canadian Space Agency's development of the Near Earth Object Surveillance Satellite (NEOSSat). This microsatellite, about the size of a suitcase, is designed to monitor asteroids, comets, and space junk in near-Earth orbit to create a detailed survey. It will follow a polar orbit to observe areas near the Sun and use parallax to determine distances. The article highlights the 100-year anniversary of the Tunguska event as a reminder of the need to track space debris. NEOSSat is expected to provide an unprecedented view of space and is funded by a joint project between the Canadian Space Agency and Defense Research Development Canada.

Welsh UFO sighting to feature on US show

This piece details a mysterious UFO sighting over Wales that is set to be featured on the US investigative show "UFO Hunters." The incident gained international attention after a police helicopter was nearly involved in a collision with a flying saucer. The article mentions that the show is seeking witnesses for its upcoming series. It also includes other reported UFO sightings in Wales, such as unusual lights and triangular objects. Philip Mantle of UFO DATA magazine is quoted as saying that the official source of the St Athan sighting lends it extra credence. The article also lists contact information for those who may have witnessed similar events.

1977 Proposed Carter White House Extraterrestrial Communication Study

Authored by Alfred Lambremont Webre, this section summarizes a proposed study during the Carter administration. The study aimed to compile and evaluate evidence of extraterrestrial or inter-dimensional intelligent presence. Its goals included creating a public White House report with policy recommendations, potentially transforming US military-intelligence secrecy regulations. The proposed participants included the White House, NASA, the National Science Foundation, and SRI International. The study was intended to fill a knowledge gap created by excessive government secrecy regarding UFO phenomena since the late 1940s.

UNT checks authenticity of UFO claim

This article reports on researchers at the University of North Texas analyzing metallic objects from Aurora, Texas, to determine if they came from a UFO crash in 1897. The History Channel program "UFO Hunters" recently investigated the claim. The results of the UNT analysis are not yet public, pending the show's airing.

UFOs not rare but regular

This report from Shanghai Daily features astronomy researcher Wang Sichao, who studies UFOs in Nanjing, China. He notes that UFO sightings occur every five to 10 years and that while many can be explained as natural phenomena or man-made objects, some shapes like spirals, fans, circles, spindles, and V-shaped objects remain inexplicable. The article mentions a historical painting from 1892 depicting a "fire ball" and details a recent V-shaped UFO sighting in 2006 and a rod-shaped UFO in 1999.

Local UFO/ET Activist Groups

Written by Ed Komarek, this article discusses the need for local UFO/ET activist groups in the United States and Canada to build a stronger exopolitics infrastructure. It highlights existing national networks like the Exopolitics Institute's Network and Open Minds Forum. Komarek emphasizes the importance of independent local groups and proposes an international working group to coordinate their formation. He suggests using the Open Minds forum for communication and coordination, and recommends Cyrellys as an Internet project coordinator.

His understanding aligns with that of Rudy Schild, PhD. Kvande's background includes work as a computer technician and software engineer.

New Book Discloses UFO Crash

This article reviews a new book, "The Other Roswell: UFO Crash on the Texas-Mexico border," by Noe Torres and Ruben Uriarte. The book details the alleged 1955 encounter of retired U.S. Air Force colonel Robert B. Willingham, who chased a UFO across West Texas and witnessed it crash near the Rio Grande River. Willingham reportedly saw a metallic object and encountered Mexican soldiers at the crash site. The article quotes UFO investigator Ruben Uriarte, calling it an amazing UFO story with a highly credible eyewitness. It also mentions a Cold War simulation context for the sighting and Willingham's attempt to retrieve a piece of strange metal debris.

Recurring Themes and Editorial Stance

The journal consistently presents a pro-UFO investigation stance, featuring a wide range of topics from alleged medical miracles to government studies and international sightings. There is a clear interest in the potential for extraterrestrial contact and disclosure, as evidenced by the coverage of Vatican statements and the promotion of activist groups. The publication also acknowledges the religious and theological interpretations of UFO phenomena, including the controversial view of UFOs as demonic. The editorial approach appears to be one of open inquiry, encouraging readers to consider various perspectives and use their own discernment while providing information on ongoing research, sightings, and related books and events.

This issue of the Minnesota MUFON Journal, identified as issue number 13, is a free publication distributed via the internet as a PDF document. It focuses on UFO and UAP (Unidentified Aerial Phenomena) reports, research, and related events.

Minnesota UFO Reports

Minnesota-Three Pair of Hollow Lights (May 17, 2008)

Three friends driving on Highway 35-W in Minnesota observed three pairs of circular, hollow lights approximately 10-15 miles north of Hinkley. The lights appeared dime-sized at arm's length and resembled glowing rings. Each pair consisted of two rings hovering horizontally, with one object slightly above the other two. Estimations placed the objects 5 to 15 miles away. After about a minute, the far-right object veered southeast. As the witnesses passed under a bridge, one object disappeared. The remaining two pairs of lights flew directly away, converging into red dots and disappearing within about 5 seconds. The witnesses described the objects as clearly visible, not commercial jets or military formations, and noted their independent movement.

Radar Observer Reports (August 20, 1966; September 1966; July 1967)

A former Air Force commanding radar observer, stationed in Duluth, MN, reported numerous unidentified radar echoes over a two-year period, leading to the scrambling of military aircraft. The aircraft involved included F89J, F106, F102, and F101 models, capable of high speeds and altitudes up to 70,000-80,000 ft. Pilots were instructed to intimidate or ground UFOs without firing.

August 20, 1966: Around 8 PM, an unidentified radar echo was detected about 45 miles southwest of Finland, MN, moving northeast at an altitude of 2000 ft. The echo then hovered stationary for about 10 minutes, indicating a speed of 32,400 mph over a 5-second interval. Two F102 aircraft were scrambled and reported approaching a flat, gray disk, about 30 ft in diameter, within 6 miles. As the jets approached, the disk accelerated northeast and was last located at 50,000 ft over Grand Marais, rapidly ascending. The echo disappeared from radar, possibly due to moving out of range or exceeding the radar's 110,000 ft altitude capability. The aircraft experienced no power loss or instrument distortion.

September 1966: Around noon, the commanding officer of the Finland radar reported that 50 military personnel saw a gray disk, size unknown, rocking overhead at 2000 ft. A radar echo was confirmed. Two F89J aircraft were scrambled and got within a few miles of the disk, described as "silverish." The pilots reached the moving disk within 12 minutes and observed it clearly. The disk accelerated northeast, exceeding the aircraft's maximum altitude. No aircraft power loss or instrument distortion occurred.

July 1967: Radar indicated an unidentified echo over French River, MN, near a BOMARK unmanned interceptor missile site. Military personnel at the site reported an extremely bright, round light, 5-6 ft across, hovering directly over the missile silo. The blast doors became inoperative, and the light then departed. No aircraft were scrambled, and no missiles were fired. The witness was later told by military personnel that the same thing happened again.

Later in 1967: The witness tracked a 747 commercial aircraft. An echo smaller than the 747's split off and moved southwest. Over a 40-second interval, this smaller echo moved approximately 120 miles, indicating a speed of about 11,000 mph. No aircraft were scrambled to investigate.

The witness, now a civilian, had not spoken publicly about these sightings until interviewed in March 2008.

New Search for Alien Life is Planned (UPI Science News, June 9, 2008)

U.S. astronomers are developing plans to use the new Allen Telescope Array to search for extraterrestrial intelligence in the Milky Way Galaxy. Professor Richard Conn Henry of Johns Hopkins University, along with Seth Shostak of the SETI Institute and Steven Kilston of the Henry Foundation Inc., are leading this effort. The telescope array, composed of hundreds of small dishes, aims to detect signals from technologically advanced civilizations. Henry explained that civilizations in star systems close to Earth's orbital plane would be motivated to send communications, as they would have detected Earth's transit across the sun and recognized its habitable zone. Spectroscopic analysis of Earth's atmosphere would confirm the presence of life.

The researchers presented their plans at a meeting of the American Astronomical Society in St. Louis.

UFOS - A Worldwide Phenomenon 39th Annual International MUFON Symposium

The article announces the upcoming MUFON 2008 Symposium, scheduled for July 24-27, 2008, in San Jose, California. The conference will feature international speakers, information on the Stephenville, Texas sightings, Coast to Coast host George Noory, and stars from the History Channel's "UFO Hunters." It also highlights field investigator workshops taught by experts like Budd Hopkins.

Information is provided on how to sign up for the symposium and how to become a MUFON member, which includes a subscription to the monthly UFO Journal.

Bill Moyers Quote

The issue includes a quote from Bill Moyers on democracy and information: "So it is that democracy without honest information creates the illusion of popular consent while enhancing the power of the state and the privileged interests protected by it. Democracy without accountability creates the illusion of popular control while offering ordinary Americans only cheap tickets to the balcony, too far away to see that the public stage has become just a reality TV set." The editor adds a note suggesting this quote aptly describes the UFO situation.
