This issue of the MUFON Newsletter provides updates on organizational activities, upcoming events, and research initiatives within the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON).

MUFON UFO SYMPOSIUM - MASSACHUSETTS DELEGATES

The newsletter announces the individuals appointed to represent Massachusetts at the 1984 MUFON UFO Symposium. These representatives were named at a meeting of Mass. MUFON, Inc. on May 12th. The delegates include:

• Marge Christensen - State Director
• Barry Greenwood - Asst. State Director
• Jules Vaillancourt - Worcester County Section Director
• Linda Seal - Essex County Section Director
• James Melesciuc - Norfolk County Section Dir.
• Joan Thompson - Mass. MUFON member

MUFON NATIONAL NEWS

TELUFONET Operational:
The new National Telephone Network, TELUFONET, is set to become operational within the month. This system, compiled by the National Committee on Public Information and Education, will enable MUFON Headquarters in Seguin, TX, to contact all 50 State Directors within one hour.

Marge Christensen's Promotion:
Marge Christensen has been promoted to Director of Public Relations and has also been appointed to the MUFON Board of Directors. Furthermore, she will represent MUFON on the Public Relations Committee of the North American UFO Federation.

National Committee Meeting:
The first meeting of both the East and West Coast segments of the National Committee on Public Information and Education is scheduled for July 6th, following a reception at the MUFON UFO Symposium in San Antonio.

Pre-registration Reminder:
A reminder is issued that July 1st is the deadline for pre-registration for the August 12th UFO FORUM. The pre-registration fee for Mass. MUFON members is $6.00, while non-members pay $8.00. Registration at the door will cost $10.00 for everyone. Flyers with mailing instructions are available.

Anticipated Attendance and Speakers:
The Forum is expected to be well-attended. Notified attendees include Dr. Bruce Maccabee, State Dir. of Maryland and associated with the Fund for UFO Research. It is also possible that Louisiana State Dir., Mr. Doug Labat, will attend. Mr. Peter Geremia, New Hampshire State Dir., will lead a delegation from New Hampshire.

Call to Action:
Members are urged to mark their calendars for this important event, as telephone reminders will not be sent to the entire membership. The newsletter expresses gratitude for the slate of speakers and encourages members to support the Forum by bringing friends or relatives.

RENEWED CONTACT WITH POLICE DEPTS. ASKED

All Section Directors are requested to re-establish contact with local police departments within their respective counties. This initiative was last undertaken approximately 3.5 years ago and needs to be renewed. Special cards are available for this purpose, to be mailed along with MUFON information sheets. Prompt attention to this matter is requested.

FUND COMPUTER NETWORK OPERATIONAL

The Fund for UFO Research has launched UFONET, a new computer network designed for the exchange of UFO information. The network aims to reduce the response time between a UFO sighting report and its subsequent investigation, as well as to help investigators identify local concentrations of sightings or the onset of a general "flap." The current network is limited to exchanging information on UFO sightings as they occur. A central computer serves as a "bulletin board" where investigators with appropriate computer equipment can post sighting reports, which remain available for two weeks. FUND TO OFFER BOOK FOR SALE

The Fund for UFO Research will offer a package for $25.00, which includes a copy of the book "Clear Intent" and a bumper sticker that reads "I Support UFO Research."

BUMPER STICKERS TO BE ON SALE AT UFO FORUM

Bumper stickers with the slogan "UFOs are Real--Ask the government" will be available for purchase at the August 12 UFO Forum. Proceeds from these sales will help fund the National Newsletter.

UFO Publicity High

In anticipation of the book "Clear Intent" being published, MUFON State organizations across the country have prepared free-standing UFO displays. These displays are intended for use in shopping malls and bookstores. Massachusetts MUFON's display is ready, and volunteers will be recruited to staff it during appearances. Slides of the display were shown at the May meeting, and the display will be exhibited at the August 12 UFO FORUM.

MEMBERS ASKED TO ASSESS MEETING SCHEDULE

It has been six months since MUFON meetings transitioned from a monthly to a bi-monthly schedule, with small working meetings held in alternate months. Members are asked to provide feedback on whether this new schedule is successful and effective, or if they would prefer to return to the previous monthly schedule. Feedback should be directed to Marge Christensen, Barry Greenwood, or a Section Director.

Call to Contact Congressman

Members who have not yet contacted their Congressman are encouraged to do so to request a free copy of "The UFO Enigma," compiled by the Congressional Research Service.
