Director's Desk

Ray Maurer, State Director, reports on his participation in a national research project involving the abduction phenomenon. He is contributing regression tapes for transcription into a computer database. Preliminary results from 309 transcribed tapes indicate that 'Grey' entities are the most common (43%), followed by 'White' (22%) and 'Dark' (20%). Most entities are described as short (under 3 ft), and 57% have big eyes. Other reported characteristics include nose (indistinct, 40%), mouth (a line with no lips, 19%), and ears (none, 19%). Garment types are varied, with 'Robe/cloak/cape' being the most prevalent (25%).

Maurer also provides updates on local events, including the January meeting on the 24th, which will be held a week late due to a conference on the 22nd and 23rd. He mentions a second conference on February 5th at the Safari Resort and a quarterly meeting for the Tucson chapter on February 12, 1994, focusing on 'UFO World Update.'

UFO Hotlines and Conferences

• June 1953 - Tombstone: A former pilot and guests observed a large disc for 4 seconds.
• July 27, 1974 - Paradise Valley: Dorothy Tessmer and family observed a disc with lights for 20 minutes.
• July 1981 - Wickieup: Tom Taylor and a friend saw a red light split and fly in opposite directions.
• August 10, 1982 - Lukachukai, Apache County: A father and son saw an object disintegrate and a green light; an Indian family reported a landing.
• July 11, 1985 - Wickieup: Motorists reported UFOs along Highway 93.
• September 24, 1986 - Yuma: A woman saw pink/orange lights with a humming noise.
• December 1989 - Yuma: A woman observed a hovering green light that changed shapes.
• November 1990 (approx.) - Apache Junction: Tom Marcellino's family observed a blue light from a metallic object that caused electrical disruption.
• February 9, 1992 - Kingman: Michael H. Landwehr saw an orange, glowing, cigar-shaped object.
• August 19, 1992 - Picacho Peak: A young man saw a low-flying, solid object with a matte black finish that hovered and illuminated an area.
• March 13, 1993 - Yuma: A woman saw a round, yellow object with haze.
• March 16, 1993 - Artesia: Witnesses saw 3 orange objects above Mt. Graham for 20 minutes.
• March 16-17, 1993 - Graham County: Over 40 reports of 3 orange, glowing lights maneuvering.
• March 24, 1993 - Horseshoe Dam (Verde River): Pat and Scott observed a triangular object with various colored lights for 5.5 hours.
• April 3, 1993 - Greenley County: Deputy Sheriffs observed a diamond-shaped object that was lit from inside, hovering and spinning.
• April 7, 1993 - Strawberry: Joe Hammond and wife observed a silvery disc.
• May 1993 - Cottonwood Ranch: Tom Taylor and Diane observed a fluorescent green, hula-hoop shaped object.
• May 1993 - Yuma: A man and boys saw an orange light that disappeared when an airplane flew near.
• August 1993 (Several Dates) - Phoenix: Mary Hart observed a stationary bright light on many occasions.
• August 24, 1993 - Yuma: A couple saw a bright light that gave a flash.
• August 28, 1993 - Yuma: Doris Barley and others observed a bright object changing shapes and flashing lights.
• August 29, 1993 - Yuma: A woman and friends observed 10-12 red, white, and blue flashing objects along with a larger white object.
• September 1, 1993 - Yuma: A man saw a red light shoot through the sky and leave a trail.
• September 10, 1993 - Phoenix: Marlene Childers and husband observed a boomerang-shaped, lighted object.
• September 12, 1993 - Phoenix: Marlene Childers observed a similar light.
• September 14, 1993 - Cave Creek: Dianna Blasingim observed pulsating blue-green-amber-amber-red lights.
• September 30, 1993 - Yuma: "John" reported being abducted by 15 black-gray aliens and seeing small crafts and a reptoid being.
• October 12, 1993 - Yuma: "John" reported another abduction, feeling paralyzed and undergoing an examination.

Several other sightings from 1986 and 1987 are listed without detailed sources.

UFO Crash at Southaven Park

This article, reprinted from the October 1993 Oklahoma MUFONews, details an alleged alien spacecraft crash in Southaven Park, Shirley, NY, on November 24, 1992. John Ford of the Long Island U.F.O. Network led the investigation, which involved acquiring photos and a video tape. Eyewitnesses reported hearing rumbling sounds and seeing strange lights. The park was closed for several days, and a local resident reported power surges and unusual phone activity. Ford noted higher-than-normal radiation readings and a fence line with no magnetic reading, suggesting the object had stripped its magnetic charge. The video shows a reddish, metallic object emitting a cloudy gas and a hissing sound, and attempts to identify a body. The investigation concluded that an extraterrestrial craft crashed, and the group aims to prove it. The article also mentions the difficulty in researching UFOs due to public fear and potential government repercussions.

Budd Hopkins and David M. White Sides Defense Committee

This section contains a letter from Glenn Campbell of the White Sides Defense Committee urging citizens to write to Mr. Curtis Tucker of the Bureau of Land Management to request a public hearing in Las Vegas regarding the Air Force's proposed land seizure near Groom Lake.
