The January meeting of the Network was planned to feature a special presentation on U.F.O. Abductions, including a video presentation. The second half of the meeting was to be a closed session exclusively for LIUFON Members, with non-members and guests asked to leave. The subject matter for this closed session was to be disclosed only to members.

Newsletter Delay

The printing of the newsletter had been delayed by two months due to equipment malfunctions with the photocopier and word processor during July and August. LIUFON News

The Long Island UFO Network (LIUFON) reported a busy year, with approximately seventy cases investigated in 1991. Activity on Long Island and in the Metropolitan area was ongoing. Director of Investigations Frank Columbo and his wife were expecting a new addition to their family in February. Tim Beckly of "UFO Universe" had recently published LIUFON's report on the Elizabeth Hess Manhattan Abduction Case, which had received widespread praise.

Gulf Breeze, Florida Sightings Continue

Since January 1991, witnesses near the Pensacola Bay Bridge in Gulf Breeze, Florida, have reported observing a large red light performing unusual aerial maneuvers. U.F.O. Researchers from the Mutual U.F.O. Network (MUFON) have been investigating. On September 6th, 1991, about 20 witnesses observed a large UFO at 8:20 P.M. heading South to North at a 60-degree elevation. The object was brightly illuminated, blocking out stars, and performed a barrel roll before accelerating out of sight. On September 8th, 1991, another large UFO with porthole lights was observed and photographed.

On September 10th, 1991, witnesses reported a large UFO and a smaller one near the Bay Bridge. The large UFO was observed for about a minute before fading, while the smaller one stayed in a fixed position and gradually faded. The UFOs were located at a 45-degree elevation over Old Navy Cove. MUFON investigators were among the witnesses, and photographs were taken for analysis.

Marie Venable from Birmingham, Alabama, reported five UFO sightings in the Gulf Breeze area since September 1st. Her sightings included a bright light, an object with rows of bright porthole lights, and a large UFO that floated across the sky, flipped on its side, and turned out its lights. She and others observed the same object for about 45 seconds over the Bay on September 8th.

Argentine UFO Sightings in Argentine UFO Triangle

Since mid-July, numerous UFO sightings and related phenomena have been observed in and around Victoria, in the Argentine province of Entre Rios. Lights crossing the sky, actual craft, and extra-terrestrials have been seen and photographed. A television crew reportedly filmed the landing of a craft. NASA technicians have been sent to the area. In mid-August, extra-terrestrials described as very tall were reportedly seen debarking from a landed UFO. In early September, witnesses saw ten small lights emerge from a larger light, disperse, and then re-enter the larger craft, which then sped away. Local reporter Ramon Pereyra noted that 90% of Victoria's residents had seen these strange lights. Edgardo Fontanet, spokesperson for an Argentine UFO Research Group, stated that extraterrestrials have chosen this triangular area for their visitations. Further reports claim that inhabitants from remote villages have disappeared after searching for the mysterious lights. (Source: INTERNATIONAL U.F.O. San Baltazar, Puebla Province, Mexico

Researcher Zitha Rodriquez Montiel of Mexico's Centro Internacional de Estudios Espaciales A.C. is investigating multi-sightings in San Baltazar. More than 1000 people have reported seeing a domed silver object shaped like a banana with lights on each end, hovering nightly near a small white house. People have traveled from across Mexico to see the object. Rodriquez' son videotaped the UFO on August 10th and 14th. This follows media coverage of UFO activity during the July 11th solar eclipse, when two luminous objects were seen crossing the moon. Mexican journalist Jacabo Zabludovsky reported this on the program "24 HOURS". (Source: INTERNATIONAL U.F.O. NEWS BULLETIN, Sept.-Oct. 1991, Vol 2, No 5., Diane Montrose editor)

U.F.O.'s In The News

The Clarkson-Harrison Public Library in Clarksburg, West Virginia, has opened a collection of books, correspondence, journals, and periodicals by noted Ufologist Gray Barker, who died in 1984. The collection is available by appointment. The Fund for UFO Research is awarding cash prizes for journalistic excellence. They also announced a fund-raising drive to further the exploration of the Roswell U.F.O. Crash Retrieval, aiming for a Congressional Investigation. "NEWSDAY" reported on an unknown spacecraft or rocket booster passing close to Earth. The broadcast of "Unsolved Mysteries" in November concerning Belgium sightings was praised for its reporting, noting the Belgian Government's openness to investigation.

The Long Island Scene

The activity on Long Island and in the Metropolitan area continued in November. LIUFON arranged a second hypnotic regression for witnesses in the West Islip Abduction Case. The principal witness, a 27-year-old nurse abducted in May 1990, underwent a session that picked up from a previous one terminated due to emotional reaction. The witness described being escorted by two eight-foot tall humanoids to an oval-shaped craft, undergoing an examination with a long needle-like probe, and being returned home. Her mother reported seeing a robed figure and bright light beams. Information emerged about a non-human child, reportedly conceived through artificial insemination by alien abductors, with the witness having experienced gynecological problems at age fourteen. The case remains under investigation, with future regression sessions planned.

In November, a family in Lindenhurst reported a series of abduction experiences, potentially involving multiple generations and a minor witness. This case is under investigation.

A report from Lebanon, New Jersey, forwarded by Dick Ruhl, described a family observing 30 to 40 objects emerging from a low cloud on November 9th, 1991. The objects were estimated to be between 300 and 500 feet in size and were visible from 8:00 P.M. to 11:00 P.M.

Feature Article: Book Review

"U.F.O. CRASH AT ROSWELL" by Kevin Randle and Donald R. Schmitt

This review highlights "U.F.O. Crash at Roswell" as one of the most important books published in 1991 on the subject. It is presented as more authoritative than Charles Berlitz and William Moore's "Roswell Incident" (1979). The review notes that Stanton Friedman reactivated interest in the incident in the mid-seventies by meeting with witnesses. The book reportedly compiles more information and witnesses than previous efforts, drawing from new sources.

The review outlines key revelations from the book:
1. There was a cover-up of something other than a weather balloon crash at Roswell, with the government file remaining closed.
2. Two objects were involved: one possibly a robot craft that rammed a second piloted craft, causing both to crash on the plains of St. Augustine, New Mexico. Both craft were retrieved under top-secret conditions.
3. The Air Force and Government immediately attempted to cover up the incident, retrieving all copies of the original Army Air Force press release and shutting down news wire services.
4. Civilian and military witnesses reported that something other than a weather balloon was taken from the Brazel ranch, with metal fragments unlike anything seen on Earth, as substantiated by Col. Jesse Marcel and his son.
5. The Center for U.F.O. Studies financed further research and an unsuccessful archaeological dig at the Brazel Ranch crash site, marking a significant sponsorship of a scientific expedition to unearth UFO artifacts.

The review concludes that the book offers extensive information and is a must-read for serious researchers, recommending it for 1992 or as a Christmas present.
