L.I.U.F.O.N. Activities and News

The organization L.I.U.F.O.N. has been actively engaged in various activities. The Jacksonville, Florida case received significant national media attention, leading to an influx of new members. L.I.U.F.O.N. is preparing for a taping of Joel Martin's show on August 31st, focusing on the Moriches Bay Case. A potential TV program deal with Manhattan Cable System has been cancelled due to a lack of financial backing. L.I.U.F.O.N. has also had a positive response from its library talks series, with several fall engagements planned, including at Riverhead Library and a potential talk at Sag Harbor Library. An evening talk is scheduled for October 12th at Massapequa Library. Barry Gellis of Brooklyn-Queens Cable Company has invited L.I.U.F.O.N. to participate in a public access cable show.

The newsletter also extends well wishes for a safe Labor Day weekend to its readers.

The Long Island Scene

Several ongoing investigations are highlighted. The West Islip case, involving the possible abduction of a mother and daughter, is under investigation. Strange phenomena reported include nocturnal lights, balls of light, and a hooded entity. The case also involves the death of trees and shrubs in the backyard shortly after the incident. The mother and daughter are scheduled for regression therapy with Bud Hopkins. The Lefante case has intensified, with James reporting two abduction experiences this past month, involving himself and several friends, which is consistent with previous abductions in this case.

Further reports from the Long Island area include a strange light moving in an oval rotation in the sky near Patchogue on August 3rd, observed by a family. On August 5th, a bright illumination of the night sky was reported in Oakdale. On August 10th, a witness in Islip may have seen a red oval object descend into Heckscher State Park. L.I.U.F.O.N. is investigating this. On August 17th, two Grumman employees reported seeing a silver cigar-shaped object at 10,000 ft over the Grumman facility in Calverton.

Membership Corner

A membership meeting is scheduled for Friday, August 24th, 1990, at 6:30 p.m. at the South Country Library in Bellport Village. The meeting will feature two videos: one from the PBS Nova series on the UFO Phenomenon and a documentary on the Gulf Breeze sightings. The meeting is open to the public.

Future meeting dates at the South Country Library are set for September 28th, October 26th, November 30th, and December 21st. Each meeting will be announced in the newsletter.

Complaints about late newsletter delivery have been received, and L.I.U.F.O.N. has complained to the post office without a satisfactory resolution. The production schedule has been affected by changes in meeting dates. The next issue of 'The Long Island U.F.O. Reporter' journal has been delayed until September due to a lack of typists and late article submissions.

The Chairman's Corner: The South African UFO Crash: It's a Hoax!!

This section debunks the widely reported South African UFO crash recovery case from May 9th, 1989. The case, which involved the alleged shooting down of a UFO by the South African Air Force, the recovery of alien bodies, and an exchange of wreckage for nuclear weapons with the US Government, is declared a hoax. The story, initially published in the West German magazine 'Bunte' with purported secret documents and photographs, is attributed to James Van Gruenen, who is identified as an international hoaxer. The photographs were reportedly doctored images of a mummified Indian child's carcass. Mr. Bill Knell of Island Skywatch is criticized for spreading the fraud for sensationalism and profit, even publicizing it on his cable TV show. The case is officially discredited.

UFO and Corn Circle Investigator Pat Delgado Standing Next to Circle in Winchester, England

Winchester, England: A report details the discovery of rectangular formations in conjunction with corn circles in Cheesefoot Head. Investigator Pat Delgado believes this discovery challenges existing explanations for the circle phenomenon, suggesting an intelligence behind it. The formations include a corridor leading from a main circle and four coffin-like depressions.

Bloomington, Indiana: Reports indicate a landing in a field belonging to Bruce and Becky Merida. A 25-foot diameter circle of mashed grass was found, with three depressions in the soil, suggesting something landed on a tripod. No witnesses were present, and no official explanation has been offered.

The National and International UFO Review: The Beast of Exmoor!!!

Since 1983, hundreds of sheep have been killed in the Exmoor area of England, with their faces and necks ripped off and blood sucked out. The killings, often silent and violent, have led to speculation about an oversized dog, a large cat, or a mountain lion. Local resident Nigel Brisly has written a book on the subject. Farmer Rod Brammer described seeing a hefty, low-slung, muscular creature. However, Doug Richardson of the London Zoo disputes the 'big cat' theory, citing paw prints that show claws (which big cats retract) and the characteristic blood-sucking behavior, which is uncharacteristic of big cats. The creature remains uncaught.

The Wildman of China

Dr. Frank Poirier, an anthropologist from Ohio State University, believes in the ancient Chinese legend of the 'Yehen' or 'Wildmen of China', primitive ape-like beings. His expedition with Richard Greenwell to film a six-foot hairy creature yielded a sample of hair that defied chemical analysis but had an iron to zinc ratio similar to human hair. Chinese officials blocked the extradition of samples. Poirier believes the creature is distinct from the Yeti and Bigfoot and may be a descendant of Gigantopthecus. He plans a return expedition.

Moscow, U.S.S.R.: Soviet villagers are reportedly teasing a milkman who reported an encounter with a UFO near Lipetsk. Vladimir Akhaltseu was followed by a large ball of light. Several villagers claimed to have seen the object as well.

UFO Sightings in Europe

Brussels, Belgium: Reports of triangular UFOs with lights have continued since November, with over 700 sightings officially reported. An extraordinary incident on April 10, 1990, involved a large metallic craft shaped like a triangle, estimated to be as big as a house, observed and videotaped by Marcel Alfarino. The object reportedly made a hissing sound. The videotape is under examination.

Colchester, England: On April 27, 1990, eight people reported a dull, red colored oval object flying over the River Thames, estimated to be forty feet in diameter at 5000 feet altitude, with an estimated speed of 1000 m.p.h. The case remains unexplained.

Croydon, England: On January 18, 1990, an elliptical shaped object, resembling a soupbowl, hovered 25 feet above rooftops for about a minute. The witness, a civil engineer, reported unexplained whirring sounds. The R.A.F. and Civil Aviation Authority had no official reports.

Newham, England: The East Anglia UFO and Paranormal Research Association reported 24 UFO sightings in East London in January 1990. Specific sightings include a saucer-shaped object with multi-colored lights, a triangular formation of lights, a high-speed blue light, and a large orange ball of light.

Special Report: The Glen Cove Photo Analysis Case

This case involves a photograph taken by an amateur photographer in the summer of 1973 or 1974 in Glen Cove, USA. When developed, the picture revealed a large oval disc above the treeline in the background, which the photographer did not see at the time. The witness recently submitted the photo to L.I.U.F.O.N. for examination and explanation.

The Pine Bush Trip Report

An investigation was conducted at the Walden Jewish Cemetery and adjoining field on July 21st and 22nd, 1990. The site has a history of eyewitness and photographic evidence of large object landings. Previous investigations by L.I.U.F.O.N. reported strange radio frequency emissions and magnetic effects, with some team members experiencing dizziness. During this investigation, periodic radio frequency anomalies and magnetic deviations were detected. A two-minute period of complete absence of animal and insect sounds was also noted. A more comprehensive report is planned for the next issue, with a second trip to Pine Bush scheduled for September.

Recurring Themes and Editorial Stance

The recurring themes in this issue include ongoing UFO investigations, particularly on Long Island, the analysis of physical evidence like corn circles, and the debunking of alleged UFO incidents. The publication maintains a stance of investigating and reporting on UFO phenomena while also critically examining claims and exposing hoaxes. There is a clear emphasis on research, evidence, and the pursuit of explanations for unexplained events, balanced with a healthy skepticism towards sensationalized or fraudulent claims.

It is a hoax. Remember to check your sources next time Mr. Knel.
