SFINGA Conference at Houska Castle

The 18th SFINGA conference, organized by the Fantastic Fact Club, will be held at Houska Castle from May 21-22, 2016. This event focuses on unexplained phenomena and historical underground exploration. Registration is mandatory and must be done in advance, providing name, address, and mobile contact. Participants will receive a name badge. The organizers reserve the right to select attendees, and participation is at the attendee's own risk. Initial proposals were dated April 12, 2017, with further details to be confirmed. Strict adherence to organizer instructions is required, and children must be accompanied by adults. The meeting and registration point is the courtyard of Houska Castle on Saturday, May 21st, from 7:30 AM to 9:00 AM. The program includes lectures on May 21st from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with a possibility of extending to May 22nd if necessary due to the large number of presentations. Overnight stays in sleeping bags are possible at the castle. The preliminary list of lectures, presented in alphabetical order by speaker, includes topics such as "Parasites Within Us" (+Plasma Generator) by Miroslava Čapková, Feng Shui applications by Robert Haluska, "C.C.S. Artefacts in Cryptozoology" (Ancient Civilizations) by Votěch Kačírek, "What's New in the Underground 2016" by Ladislav Lahoda, "FFC Not Just the Golden Train" by Milan Zacha Kučera, "Mysterious Phenomena and Physical Measurements" by Josef Purkrt, "The Influence of Beings in Our Lives" by Libuše Švecová, and "The Mystery of Iva and the Sword" and "What is Hidden Behind the Statues of Roland" by Františka Vrbenská. Short lectures include "Beautiful Old Machines" by Miroslav Kadlec, "Traces of Petr Brandl in Jílové" by Eva Malá, and a presentation by L. Šafařík on KPUFO MUDr. Jan Lukeš, described as 'a madman, contactee, genius, the Czech Tolkien???'.

Participation Fees and Logistics for Houska Conference

The participation fee is 590 CZK per person, with a reduced rate of 490 CZK for members of FFC, CMA, KPUFO, Záře, Záblesk, SAVPJ, and children aged 10-15. Lecturers, organizers, invited guests, and children under 10 attend for free. The fee includes a drink voucher and a sausage at the castle kiosk. A discount of 90 CZK is offered for those who opt out of the lunch. Travel by private car is recommended, with parking available in front of the castle upon registration. Information is requested for anyone traveling by train to Okna station for potential carpooling. The recommended route from Prague involves taking the highway to Mladá Boleslav, then road 38 towards Obora, turning left to Okna, then road 273 to Luka, and finally following signs to Houska via Kruh and Houska. Participants are advised to bring tourist clothing and a flashlight. Sleeping bags and mats are recommended for overnight stays, as sleeping arrangements are available throughout the castle except for the chapel. A kiosk offers basic refreshments. Vegetarians are advised to bring their own food. Comfortable camping chairs or fishing stools may be useful. The organizers are open to offers for additional lectures on underground topics or unexplained phenomena. A projector will be available, but due to a full program, lectures must not exceed 10 minutes. Evening discussions and guided tours of the castle and its surroundings are planned after the tourist departure.

Historical Mysteries

• Polar Lights Depictions: The article discusses woodcuts published by Melantrich z Aventýna in 1562, depicting polar lights on the night of March 13-14. One woodcut shows a battle scene and a landscape, with the aurora described as "Welmi diwna a y hrozná widienij a zázracy" (very strange and terrible sights and miracles).
• Pekelská skála Formation: An investigation into unusual basalt formations near Pekelská skála, by the village of Boč, north of Stráž nad Ohří. The formation features a central crater and terraced areas, possibly created by former inhabitants (perhaps monks from a nearby monastery) to form park-like areas or small fields. The article concludes that the basalt walls and mounds, while possibly serving a purpose, are not a significant mystery.
• Mysterious Being in Čechy pod Kosířem: A mention of a report about a strange encounter near Čechy pod Kosířem, Prostějov, which was published in a regional historical bulletin from before World War II. The bulletin poses a question to readers about who might pursue this investigation further.
• Tuchlovice Stone: A report that a stone near Tuchlovice, previously located via GPS coordinates from P. Toufar's book, has been stolen. Despite thorough searching, the stone could not be found.
