Summary

Overview

The Fund for UFO Research newsletter for the second quarter of 2001 reports low office activity, including one abduction report and inquiries about Canadian UFO documents. The press newsletter, 'The UFO Report,' is being suspended due to a lack of UFO activity. The Fund is planning a closed conference to generate new research ideas and is involved in interpreting a historical document related to Gen. Ramey. Several publications are noted as forthcoming.

Magazine Overview

This document is a newsletter from the FUND FOR UFO RESEARCH, covering the Second Quarter of 2001 (April-June). The newsletter details the organization's activities, publications, and upcoming events.

Office Activity

The office activity for this quarter was reported as low. One notable event was a report from a local woman who had an audio account of a recent abduction experience. However, she subsequently failed to reestablish contact to provide materials for scrutiny as initially agreed.

The Fund also responded to an inquiry from The Edmonton Sun (Canada) regarding the release of UFO documents by the Canadian Government. Additionally, the Fund disseminated a press release concerning the closure of the British Flying Saucer Bureau. Three radio interviews were conducted during this quarter.

Press Newsletter

Eleven issues of The UFO Report were distributed to the press. Despite these efforts, there was virtually no feedback, and no indication that reporters were utilizing the publication as a source of information. The newsletter notes that unfortunately, concurrent with the period that 'The UFO Report' was being issued, there had been little UFO activity. Consequently, the publication of 'The UFO Report' will be suspended, with the possibility of revival on short notice should conditions change.

Future Research and Study of UFOs

The Fund is exploring the idea of organizing a closed conference involving top UFO "thinkers." The primary objective of this conference is to explore a course of action that could help resolve the UFO mystery. The goal is to generate novel ideas and identify promising research avenues that might foster greater interest from mainstream scientists and academicians. The Fund intends to solicit input from its board members via letters.

Conference

A conference titled "2001: A Space Odyssey: Explorations of the ET Question" is scheduled to be held at Anne Arundel Community College in Maryland on October 27, 2001. The speakers listed for this event include S. Peter Resta, Thomas Van Flandern, Paul LaViolette, Susan Swiatek, Richard Hall, Rob Swiatek, and Anna Jamerson. Information can be obtained by calling 410-777-2055.

Greer's "Project Disclosure"

Dr. Steven Greer's press conference, held on Day 1 of his "Project Disclosure," garnered extensive coverage. Military witnesses and other individuals presented testimony detailing UFO encounters. Greer and his witnesses received significant press attention, including coverage from BBC Internet site, CNN, UPI Wire News, FOX Evening News, NBC, ABC, CBS, and WTOP Radio. Articles were also published in The Washington Post and The Washington Times. A 500-page document containing the witnesses' testimony, titled "Disclosure: Military and Government Witnesses Reveal the Greatest Secrets in Modern History," is available from the Disclosure Project's website: www.disclosureproject.org.

New Proposals

Angela Thompson Smith has approached the Fund regarding the publication of writings by the late Paula Underwood. Paula Underwood was a Native American known for her knowledge of Native American philosophies, and her writings focus on the mythology of early Americans' interactions with the "Star People."

Steve Kaeser has proposed the creation of a new CD that would feature several classic CUFOS reports, including the Kelly-Hopkinsville case and Bloecher's 1947 catalog, along with one Fund report. This project would be undertaken jointly with CUFOS and the Fund.

Ramey Letter Interpretation

Efforts are ongoing to secure independent analysts from outside the UFO field to examine the wording of a famous document associated with Gen. Ramey in a 1947 Fort Worth photograph.

Publications

Wendy Wolfe's report on abductions among Australian aborigines is ready for publication. Additionally, Eddie Bullard's book, "The Sympathetic Ear," is expected to be released in a new version for the MUFON Symposium in July.

Recurring Themes and Editorial Stance

The newsletter reflects the ongoing efforts of the Fund for UFO Research to document, investigate, and promote research into UFO phenomena. There is a clear interest in historical cases (Ramey Letter), contemporary reports (abduction, Project Disclosure), and future research directions (closed conference). The suspension of 'The UFO Report' highlights the perceived lull in UFO activity during the period. The organization appears to be actively engaging with media, other research groups (CUFOS, MUFON), and academic/scientific communities to further the study of UFOs.

Publication of The UFO Report will be suspended, but may be revived on short notice if conditions should change.

Key Incidents

  1. A local woman reported an audio account of a recent abduction experience but failed to reestablish contact to turn over materials.

  2. 1947Fort Worth, USA

Efforts are ongoing to find independent analysts to examine the wording on a document held by Gen. Ramey in a 1947 photograph.
