Magazine Overview

This document is a Quarterly Report from the Fund for UFO Research Inc., covering the period of July to September 1985. It details the organization's activities, public outreach, research initiatives, and financial status.

Activities and Public Outreach

During this quarter, the FUND actively participated in National UFO Information Week (NUFOIW). This involved a national publicity campaign aimed at raising funds and promoting UFO Week, as well as a local public education initiative. The latter included donating U.S. Government documents on the UFO subject to local libraries.

The national campaign disseminated news releases to approximately 300 media outlets, leading to interviews with representatives of the FUND on numerous radio stations across the country, including WGY in Schenectady, WWDC in Washington D.C., KPRC in Houston, and WBAL in Baltimore. Dr. Bruce Maccabee, the Chairman of the FUND, was also invited to speak to the Frederick, Maryland Kiwanis Club.

The public education efforts extended to sending letters to ten local libraries, including the Library of Congress. These letters offered a speaker for NUFOIW and a complimentary three-volume set of UFO government documents. This 'Library Set' comprises the three volumes the FUND has been selling, along with Dr. Maccabee's 28-page paper, 'Document Companion,' which analyzes individual documents, and the formerly Top Secret Air Intelligence Report, "Ghost of the Estimate," released in March. The Library of Congress accepted a donated set, marking a significant achievement for the FUND. Other local libraries have also received these sets.

The FUND was represented at the Massachusetts MUFON meeting by Dr. Maccabee, Fred Whiting, Larry Bryant, and Phil Reynolds. This two-day meeting, organized with the help of Marge Christensen and others from Mass. MUFON, was well-attended. The FUND had a dedicated section at the meeting to sell documents and research papers. Dr. Maccabee was interviewed on a Boston radio station and gave two impromptu talks: one on recent circular depressions or 'saucer nests' found in England, illustrated with color slides of unusual lights in Connecticut from 1981, and another on the FUND's activities.

At the request of Marge Christensen, a collection was taken up at the Massachusetts MUFON meeting, which, along with revenue from document sales, netted over $500 for the FUND. The report expresses sincere thanks to the members of Mass. MUFON.

The COMPUFON network is reported to be "on line," and interested individuals are encouraged to call (206) 788-5307 to speak with Michael Hart.

Research Initiatives and Publications

During this quarter, the Executive Committee approved a British proposal for a study of British 'phantom airships' from 1913. This proposal is to be sent to the National Board for final approval. Additionally, the Executive Committee approved $1,000 for William Moore, author of 'The Roswell Incident,' to be paid upon receipt of newly-released documents and his historical analysis.

An article in FATE magazine (October 1985) is highlighted for its excellent and favorable review of Dr. Maccabee's paper, 'Revised UFO History.' This paper, originally presented at the 'Crashed Saucer' meeting in Washington in November 1983, posits that the Air Force acquired 'hardware' in July 1947, referencing the 'Roswell Incident.' The FATE review also mentions government documents and psychological study results on abductees, which are available through the FUND.
