Chairman's Message

Bruce Maccabee, Chairman, reported a significant influx of orders for document sets, driven by a major fund-raising effort. Approximately 11,000 letters were sent out offering these documents and information about the Fund. The Executive Committee approved the purchase of 200 copies of Richard Haines' book, "Observing UFOs," which will be offered along with another document package for contributions in the next quarter. This next package will feature information on several notable UFO incidents, including the 1975 SAC base flyovers, the 1976 Tehran Jet case, the 1978 Kuwait oil-field incident, and the 1980 Peruvian jet encounter.

Over 250 sets of documents have been mailed out, and the Executive Committee is seeking feedback from recipients via a questionnaire included in the report. The report also highlighted findings from a "UFO Research Poll," indicating strong support for continuing the retrieval of government documents and a significant interest in "crashed disc" events.

The Fund organized a "crash meeting" in November in Washington D.C. to examine ongoing investigations and findings from prominent researchers like Bill Moore, Leonard Stringfield, and Stanton Friedman. The consensus from the meeting was that crash/retrieval research is a viable field, and the Fund expects to support this work further.

Publicity Director's Report

Fred Whiting, Publicity Director, detailed the organization's outreach efforts. In conjunction with the "Crash/Retrieval" meeting, investigators William Moore and Stanton Friedman appeared on two Washington D.C. radio stations, WRC-AM and WRQX-FM, discussing the UFO subject and the Fund's work. Whiting himself conducted interviews on three radio stations in Massachusetts (WBSM, WALE) and New Hampshire (WHAB). These radio interviews, numbering over 30 in the past year, have been an effective and inexpensive way to educate the public.

The Fund is also slated for features in three upcoming publications: "The Encyclopedia of Associations" (Gale Research Company, Detroit), "The Writer's Resource Guide" (Cincinnati), and "The Washington Journalism Review." These listings are expected to enhance the Fund's reputation as a reliable source of information on UFO research.

Treasurer's Report

The Treasurer's Report for the fourth quarter of 1982 shows an increase in total assets from $10,084.36 at the end of Q3 to $10,732.99 at the end of Q4. Key assets include Checking Account, Savings & Loan, and Dreyfus Account.

Expenditures for the quarter totaled $5,187.27, with significant costs associated with the D.C. conference on crash/retrieval research ($1,340.20), promotional mailings and list purchases ($1,250.26), and printing ($1,180.00). Other expenses included postage, book purchases, proposals, supplies, and slide reproductions.

Income for the quarter amounted to $5,835.90, primarily from Sales ($4,754.00) and Donations ($865.25). Interest from Savings & Loan and appreciation from Dreyfus also contributed.
