Magazine Overview

This issue of DEGUFORUM, dated December 2000, is the 28th edition of the 7th volume, published by DEGUFO e.V. It is a German-language magazine focused on UFO research, philosophy, nature, and fringe sciences. The cover features a striking image of a Mars rover and highlights the lead story on 'Unheimliche Begegnungen mit den Grauen' (Uncanny Encounters with the Greys).

Fallberichte (Case Reports)

Unheimliche Begegnungen mit den Grauen (Uncanny Encounters with the Greys)

This section presents a personal account from a man who, as a child at age 4, claims to have witnessed three small, cat-like beings with large oval eyes hovering over his parents. He describes feeling paralyzed but not afraid, and the beings disappearing through the window. He later experienced recurring nightmares about these 'black cats' and, as an adult, recognized the beings from UFO literature. He believes this was a genuine encounter, not a dream, and that these beings were 'Greys' with large oval eyes. He also recounts having vivid dreams of being inside large, round, flat spacecraft.

In a follow-up letter, the same individual expresses gratitude for not being dismissed as a fantasist and shares another experience of having intense, lucid dreams where he could walk through walls or cars, feeling no pain or fear. He also provides a list of seemingly nonsensical words ('avatschikasiu, ataunda, kikilikas, siu ou valis, samudu od kiva') that have stuck with him since the childhood incident, hoping they might mean something to the recipient.

A third letter details recurring dreams that mirror his childhood experiences, making him question their purpose. He describes a dream of being in a large spaceship with a smaller one inside, from which he felt propelled through a tunnel, experiencing the sensation of falling. He finds these experiences amusing rather than frightening and feels a sense of familiarity with these beings, despite knowing he is not delusional.

Dr. Peter Hattwig, who summarized these accounts, offers to mediate contact for individuals with similar experiences or to receive explanations for these phenomena.

Dokumentation (Documentation)

Entführungen – Die Hintergründe (Abductions – The Background)

Dr. Eberhard Förster explores the phenomenon of alien abductions, particularly prevalent in the USA. He notes that abductees often report repressed childhood traumas, including sexual abuse, which psychiatrists attempt to uncover through hypnosis. However, the patients' accounts of being taken by aliens to UFOs for medical procedures are often beyond the doctors' understanding. John E. Mack, a Harvard professor, specialized in these cases, finding commonalities among over a hundred abductees and concluding their accounts were credible, despite the risk to his career. The number of such cases has significantly increased.

The article describes the 'Greys' as small, delicate beings with large heads, large black eyes, and grey skin. Abductees are often awakened at night, paralyzed, and taken to UFOs via a light beam. They undergo often painful or unpleasant medical procedures, with aliens showing particular interest in sperm and ova. Men may experience induced sexual thoughts, and women may have fertilized eggs implanted or embryos removed. Some women are shown 'babies' and told they are their children. The aliens are depicted as emotionless and detached. Many abductees have implants found in their bodies. The motives of these aliens are unclear and perceived as threatening.

Channeling

This section explains channeling as a method of receiving messages, often from spiritual beings or extraterrestrials, through a medium. It references books by Sanaya Roman and Duane Packer, and mentions American channelers Lyssa Royal Holt (channeling a spiritual entity named Germane) and J.Z. Knight (channeling Ramtha). These channelings often discuss humanity's relationship with extraterrestrial civilizations. The article also notes that German channeler Beate Bock channels entities like 'ascended masters' and extraterrestrials from the Alpha Centauri system.

Die Geschichte der Grauen (The History of the Greys)

According to Lyssa Royal's books, the Greys are an ancient, humanoid race genetically related to humans, but much older. They evolved similarly but experienced extreme internal conflicts leading to nuclear wars that destroyed their planet's biosphere. A portion of their civilization migrated, while the majority survived underground, adapting their physiology and genetics. They reduced their size, altered their diet and senses, particularly their eyes. They developed cloning and artificial incubation for reproduction. Believing their emotions and individuality caused conflict, they genetically engineered their brains to eliminate these traits, becoming highly intelligent but emotionless beings without individuality.

Not all Grey factions evolved identically. Some, living in interdimensional spacecraft, are described as having different spiritual values. The article suggests that some Greys on Earth may not have been to their home planet. Ramtha's channeling is quoted, describing these beings as 'brothers' who are dying and seeking to 'fertilize' and take seeds home. They are described as 'decadent humanoids' who have lost emotions and struggle with concepts like love, but are 'galactic geniuses' who are 'poor in spirituality.' Ramtha states they intentionally suppressed emotions, viewing them as a weakness, and replaced them with intellect.

Die Grauen und die Menschheit (The Greys and Humanity)

Greys recognize their evolutionary dead-end and seek to regain emotions, particularly the ability to love, by studying other races. Lyssa Royal suggests Earth is an ideal location for them to study genes from various related galactic races, including their own, as human DNA was artificially developed from Earth's genetic material and other extraterrestrial sources. Humanity's current evolutionary stage, mirroring the Greys' past, also makes them of interest. Furthermore, they are drawn to human emotions, which they wish to reacquire.

Gefühllosigkeit (Lack of Emotion)

The article discusses the traumatic nature of alien abductions for humans, often resulting in psychological disorders. It contrasts human legal systems, which would deem such acts severe crimes, with the Greys' perspective. According to Lyssa Royal's dialogue with a Grey coordinator named Harone, abductees supposedly volunteer their souls for these experiments before incarnation, and the Greys only select those who have agreed. This aligns with esoteric beliefs that life events are pre-arranged for soul growth. The Greys' lack of empathy is highlighted, viewing human emotions like fear as data-hindering.

Experimente am Menschen (Experiments on Humans)

Greys reportedly use implants to analyze biochemical molecules released by human brains and expose humans to situations to study their emotional responses. They also conduct experiments involving artificial insemination, embryo implantation, and retrieval, as well as collecting sperm and prostatic fluid. These actions are performed on a large scale without apparent remorse. Ramtha's channeling corroborates this, stating that Greys have abducted humans to breed them, using human emotions as a selection criterion and genetically modifying the offspring. He suggests that the 'tears' of these hybrid children are considered valuable by the Greys.

Hybriden (Hybrids)

The Greys are attempting to create hybrids by combining their genetics with human DNA. These beings are intended to live and reproduce naturally, possessing human emotions while retaining Grey characteristics. However, these experiments have largely failed, with hybrids rarely reaching adulthood due to immune system deficiencies and hormonal imbalances.

Positive und negative Außerirdische (Positive and Negative Extraterrestrials)

Channelings from Beate Bock suggest the existence of 'positive' and 'negative' extraterrestrials. Negative aliens may view humans as inferior and use them for their own species' survival, potentially as pets or slaves. The Greys are sometimes categorized as negative. However, a majority of 'positive' aliens are said to be respectful and benevolent towards humanity. Lyssa Royal's channelings from Germane indicate that even among the Greys, there may be 'positive' or 'neutral' groups working to positively stimulate human evolution, viewing both races as interconnected and on a path of spiritual growth.

Diskussion (Discussion)

This section attempts to bridge UFO literature with esoteric findings. The author acknowledges that many people involved in UFO research do not believe in abductions or the validity of hypnotic regression for recovering memories, suggesting instead that such phenomena might be orchestrated terrestrial experiments for mind control. The author recommends John E. Mack's work for its scientific rigor and notes similarities between abduction accounts and those of 'classic' UFO contactees, even among individuals unfamiliar with UFO literature.

The author also addresses the skepticism towards channeling, suggesting that scientifically-minded readers should approach it with an open mind, as channelings often provide logical explanations that go beyond abduction testimonies. The article posits that the concept of extraterrestrial genetic engineering challenges the theory of evolution, citing Reinhard Eichelbeck's 'The Darwin Conspiracy' and research into 'forbidden archaeology.' It questions whether humanity, on the verge of its own genetic engineering advancements, might one day influence a less developed species, similar to how extraterrestrials may have influenced humans.

The author concludes that while the presented theories are questionable, they possess internal logic and can be accepted if one broadens their worldview.

Recurring Themes and Editorial Stance

This issue of DEGUFORUM strongly focuses on the phenomenon of alien abductions, particularly involving 'Greys,' and explores potential extraterrestrial involvement in human evolution through genetic manipulation. The magazine presents information from personal accounts, research (like John E. Mack's), and channeled messages, attempting to bridge scientific skepticism with esoteric beliefs. There's a recurring theme of questioning conventional scientific paradigms, such as the theory of evolution, and exploring alternative explanations for human origins and experiences. The editorial stance appears open to unconventional ideas, presenting channeling and alien intervention as plausible, albeit controversial, subjects of study. The magazine also touches upon space exploration and other fringe topics like crop circles.

DEGUFORUM, Issue 28, dated December 2000, is a German-language publication focusing on fringe science, ufology, and speculative topics. This issue features articles on intelligent robots and consciousness, an in-depth analysis of a UFO sighting during the STS-48 Shuttle mission, and a speculative theory about the origin of the 'Greys' and human evolution.

Intelligent Robots: Will they ever achieve consciousness?

This article by Dr. Robert Hector explores the rapid advancements in robotics and the possibility of artificial intelligence developing consciousness. It highlights research from renowned scientific journals, including work by Hod Lipson and Jordan Pollack at Brandeis University, who developed a computer program that can autonomously design and manufacture robotic lifeforms. The system uses evolutionary principles to create the best computer program for building simple robots, which are then assembled from basic components. While these robots can move, they cannot yet solve complex tasks, and the evolution is limited to the computer program, lacking feedback from the robots themselves. The article also references experiments with evolving populations of artificial creatures in simulated environments, such as those by Karl Sims, whose creatures existed only in the computer. Paolo Funes and Jordan Pollack attempted to transfer simulated structures to the physical world using Lego bricks. The article touches upon the philosophical question of distinguishing between simulated and genuine consciousness, noting that while we may interact with machines as if they have consciousness, objective proof remains elusive.

Robots and Science Fiction

The article delves into the portrayal of robots in science fiction, referencing Isaac Asimov's three laws of robotics proposed in 1940. It discusses classic films like "The Day the Earth Stood Still" (1951) and "Forbidden Planet" (1956), featuring iconic robots like Klaatu's guardian and Robby the Robot. John Sladek's "The Reproductive System" (1968) is mentioned for its satirical depiction of self-replicating machines.

The Evolution of Robots

Robot scientist Hans Moravec's theories are discussed, particularly his book "Mind Children," which posits that in a post-biological world, humanity will be supplanted by its artificial offspring. Moravec predicts that future generations of robots will possess advanced sensory perception, emotions, and the ability to think faster and more precisely than humans. He envisions a future where 'Mind Children' evolve into perfect robots and computers, eventually dominating humanity. The article also touches upon Moravec's concept of 'Exes' (Ex-Humans) who upgrade themselves into super-intelligent robots and explore virtual realities, potentially leading to a 'spirit bubble' expanding at light speed.

The Riddle of the Origin of the Greys

Dr. Ing. Peter Hattwig presents a speculative hypothesis regarding the origin of the 'Greys,' a common type of alien described in abduction reports. He addresses the question of whether extraterrestrials could resemble humans or even interbreed with them, a notion dismissed by astrophysicist Carl Sagan. Hattwig explores the claims of abductees who report physical examinations and reproductive procedures aimed at creating 'hybrids'—offspring of humans and Greys. He describes the physical characteristics of Greys as reported by abductees, including large heads, slender bodies, and large black eyes. The article then contrasts these claims with biological and exobiological perspectives, which suggest that life on other planets would likely have fundamentally different biochemical compositions, making interbreeding highly improbable. Hattwig proposes a controversial theory: that the Greys are not extraterrestrials but rather descendants of humans who were relocated to another planet millennia ago, possibly in the Zeta Reticuli system. This hypothesis, he argues, reconciles the claims of hybrid creation with biological compatibility, suggesting that the Greys are essentially a divergent human lineage.

Biological Objections

The article outlines biological arguments against the possibility of alien-human hybridization. It highlights that life on other planets would likely evolve under different environmental conditions, leading to distinct biochemical structures and genetic codes. The complexity of life requires highly evolved molecules, and it is unlikely that alien life would develop the same polymers or genetic code (DNA) as Earth life.

Evolutionary Biology Perspective

From an evolutionary standpoint, life on Earth itself exhibits immense diversity. The article uses the example of the coelacanth fish to illustrate how evolutionary paths can lead to vastly different forms. It suggests that if the coelacanth had possessed six fins instead of five, terrestrial vertebrates might have evolved with six limbs, potentially developing intelligence earlier.

Statement Against Statement

Hattwig attempts to reconcile the conflicting claims of abductees and exobiologists by suggesting that the Greys might be human descendants. He posits that while their appearance and some genetic differences might exist, the fundamental biochemical composition and genetic code could be similar enough for interbreeding, albeit with advanced extraterrestrial genetic engineering.

How Did Man Reach the Stars?

This section speculates on the possibility of ancient space travel. It considers whether humans possessed the technology to travel to other star systems in the past, or if they were brought to places like Zeta Reticuli by extraterrestrial beings. The author leans towards the latter, suggesting that early humans may have been assisted by advanced alien civilizations.

The Aliens

This part of the hypothesis suggests that the 'true' aliens are beings from other star systems, vastly different from humans. It is proposed that these beings, for unknown reasons, relocated a group of humans to a planet similar to Earth, possibly near Zeta Reticuli, to establish a new civilization. This colonization would have required immense planning and advanced technology, including atmospheric modification and the introduction of Earth-like flora and fauna. The resulting human descendants, adapted to their new environment, may have developed physical characteristics like smaller stature and larger eyes, eventually becoming known as the 'Greys'.

Evidence

Hattwig searches for supporting evidence in abduction literature, citing John E. Mack's "Abductions" and David E. Jacobs' "Threat." He mentions reports of 'reptilian' beings, which he speculates could be a variation of Greys or advanced robotic constructs. The article notes the difficulty in finding conclusive evidence and appeals to readers for further information.

Fall Analysis: The Unusual Companions of the Shuttle Flight STS-48

This section, compiled and translated by Reinhard Nühlen from a report by Mark J. Carlotto, analyzes video footage from the STS-48 Shuttle mission in 1991. The footage, captured near the west coast of Australia, shows approximately a dozen objects moving in various directions relative to the spacecraft.

Objective

The primary goal of the analysis was to determine if the observed objects were ice particles or debris illuminated by the sun, as claimed by NASA, or if they were objects moving independently of the Shuttle.

Brief Result

The analysis concludes that it is unlikely the thrusters were activated, as the Shuttle's flight attitude did not change. The objects appear to be two groups interacting. One group changes direction at the time of a flash, which NASA attributes to thruster firing. The second group changes direction 1.5 seconds later. The data suggests the objects in the first group are more distant, contradicting the thruster maneuver hypothesis. The 'target' object's behavior is consistent with moving near the physical horizon.

Background Information on the Video

The video was broadcast on the NASA television channel and recorded by Mr. Donald Ratsch, who observed four unusual events. The footage from the Shuttle's cargo bay shows about a dozen objects moving relative to the Shuttle. One object appears near the horizon and follows a path along the horizon. After a flash, this object abruptly changes speed and direction, followed by a light trail. The camera then pans down to show objects below the Shuttle, one with a distinct triangular structure.

NASA's Explanation

NASA concluded that the objects were debris originating from the Shuttle, illuminated by the sun. They attributed the flickering light to the firing of thrusters and the abrupt movements to gases from the reaction control system.

Analysis of the Flight Path

The analysis involved digitizing 51 key frames from the video. The objects appear only a few pixels in size, making detailed resolution difficult. The analysis tracked the movement of ten key objects (M0-M9) over a 51-second period. The movement of stars M2 and M3 (Errai and Polaris) was used to establish a scale factor. The analysis of the 2-D movements and general direction of each object is presented. It highlights that objects M0 and M1 change direction simultaneously, followed by M4-M7 about 1.5 seconds later, suggesting they move as a group. Objects M2, M3, M8, and M9 do not show significant directional changes in the analyzed sequence.

NASA's Explanation Re-examined

The article scrutinizes NASA's explanation that the flash was caused by a thruster firing. It discusses the different types of thrusters on the Shuttle (OMS and RCS) and their firing mechanisms. The analysis of the brightness and direction of movement of star M1 suggests that the observed flash and subsequent movements are not consistent with the firing of the Shuttle's thrusters, particularly the fine control thrusters, which would produce much smaller movements. The duration of the flash implies a longer burn time than typical for fine control thrusters, leading to the conclusion that the observed phenomena are likely not related to the Shuttle's maneuvering system.

Recurring Themes and Editorial Stance

This issue of DEGUFORUM consistently explores topics at the intersection of science and speculation, particularly concerning extraterrestrial life, advanced technology, and the nature of consciousness. The editorial stance appears to be one of open inquiry into phenomena that challenge conventional scientific understanding, presenting both established scientific viewpoints and more speculative theories. The magazine encourages critical thinking and invites reader participation in ongoing research, as seen in the call for information regarding the 'Grey' hypothesis. The recurring theme is the exploration of the unknown, whether it be the potential for artificial intelligence to achieve sentience, the possibility of alien visitation, or the mysterious origins of humanity.

This issue of DEGUFORUM, dated December 2000 (Issue 28), features a prominent "Fallanalyse" (Fall Analysis) section, accompanied by graphical data and photographic evidence. The magazine also includes several book reviews on topics related to UFOs, space, and scientific inquiry.

Fallanalyse

The core of this issue is a detailed analysis of unidentified objects observed during the STS-48 mission, referred to as "Fallanalyse." The analysis begins by examining the flight path and speed of an object designated M1. It questions whether a propulsion system firing could explain the observed phenomena, concluding that the lack of star movement or horizon shift suggests it was not caused by a thruster.

Analysis of Object M1

Object M1 is described as appearing just below the horizon and slowing down before changing direction and accelerating. A flash, interpreted by Hoagland as an electromagnetic pulse effect from a weapon, occurs near M1. The analysis uses brightness measurements (Abb. 10) to show a gradual increase in M1's brightness upon appearance, followed by a relatively constant level as it moves along the horizon. A slight tail suggests movement both inside and outside the atmosphere.

The analysis further investigates M1's brightness and distance relationship, suggesting that as M1 moves away, its brightness decreases proportionally to the square of the distance. The brightness of M1 is estimated to be between 2 and 3, implying a significant energy output between 2 x 10^5 and 5 x 10^5 Watts if its distance from the shuttle is approximately 2700 km.

Images (Abb. 14a, 14b, 14c) show M1 appearing before, during, and after sunrise, with its brightness increasing as it moves from shadow into sunlight. The movement of M1 is described as a circular path, and its speed is estimated to be over 8 pixels/s, which is considered too fast for a simple scenario.

Other Objects and Hypotheses

The analysis categorizes objects based on their appearance and brightness relative to the atmosphere and sensor resolution (Abb. 16). Objects M1 and M0 appear to change direction around the time of the flash, while a second group (M4-M7) changes direction about 1.5 seconds later. M1's brightness increases as it moves through the ozon layer, suggesting it is not a simple ice particle. Object M4 is noted to be brighter and larger than M1.

Further analysis of M6 shows pulsating brightness at a rate of 5/16 cycles per second, contrasted with the faster twinkling of ice particles reflecting sunlight (Abb. 18a, 18b). The observed objects exhibit varied behavior: some pulsate, others maintain constant brightness. The tracks of M4, M6, and M7 are described as non-linear, suggesting circular paths, which is interpreted as evidence that these objects are far from the shuttle and moving in independent orbits, not Earth orbits.

Conclusion of Fall Analysis

The analysis concludes that the "ice particle hypothesis" is not consistent with the observed behavior of the objects. The movement, speed, and sudden direction changes of certain objects are incompatible with explanations involving thruster firings or simple ice particles. The authors suggest that these objects are not atmospheric phenomena or meteorites entering the atmosphere. The report calls for future missions to record similar events, possibly using stereo photography for better analysis.

Articles

Keine Mission zum Pluto in den nächsten Jahren

The lead article on the cover announces the cancellation of the Pluto-Kuiper-Express mission to explore the planet Pluto and its moon Charon. The mission, originally scheduled to launch in 2004 with a planned arrival in 8 to 12 years using Jupiter's gravity assist, will not proceed. The mission aimed to study Pluto's unusual atmosphere, which is expected to freeze out in one to two decades as the planet moves away from the sun. Water vapor, carbon monoxide, and nitrogen were detected in the atmosphere. The primary reason for the cancellation is the explosion of costs, which doubled from the initial $700 million and were projected to increase further due to the difficult nature of the tasks involved. The article cites NASA as its source and is attributed to PeHa.

Aus Presse und Internet: Caldener Erdwerk

This section reports on a crop circle discovered on July 10, 2000, near Calden in Hessen, Germany, close to Kassel. The formation is described as an impressive 'Erdwerk' (earthwork) in a wheat field, featuring a spiral-triskele with a Celtic character. It has three standing spirals, each wound six times, oriented North-South, with three smaller surrounding signatures. According to information from Klaus Listmann (FGK), the central image has a diameter of 67.5 meters, and the 'spiral circles' are approximately 30 meters in diameter. The background is identified as the Caldener Erdwerk, a site where excavations about ten years prior revealed remnants of Celtic settlements and gallery graves from the 4th millennium BC. The article notes the symbolic relationship between the formation's location and historical sites. Kornkreisforscher (crop circle researcher) Klaus Listmann attempted to take weight measurements within the formation but was unable to due to dead batteries. Upon returning home, he found his equipment functioning perfectly again. The source for this report is www.invisiblecircle.de, and it is attributed to PeHa.

Pluto as seen by the Hubble Space Telescope

A small caption accompanies an image, stating it shows Pluto as observed by the Hubble Space Telescope.

KORNKREISE IN DEUTSCHLAND

This section, referencing a report from Invisible(Circle, states that 19 crop circles were reported in Germany in the year 2000, with the North Hessian region being a focal point. Two of the most visually appealing pictograms are presented. The accompanying text for the Calden circle is the same as detailed in the 'Aus Presse und Internet' section. The two images shown are: 'Kornkreis, entdeckt am 10.7.2000 nahe des Flughafens Kassel-Calden' (Crop circle, discovered on 10.7.2000 near Kassel-Calden Airport), photographed by Frank Laumen, and 'Kornkreis, entdeckt am 30.4.2000 bei Burghsungen nahe Kassel (D)' (Crop circle, discovered on 30.4.2000 near Burghasungen near Kassel (D)).
