• July, Vosgien, France: The CVLDLN issued an appeal for witnesses regarding UFOs observed in several localities, causing electrical anomalies.
• August 6, Romorantin (41), France: A couple observed high-altitude luminous objects surrounded by halos, exhibiting high speed and irregular trajectories.
• August 12, Cormeray (41), France: Mme B. reported a rugby ball-shaped object, possibly a dirigible, moving silently towards Chitenay.
• August 14, Romorantin (41), France: Mme Francine A. and her 7-year-old daughter observed an "étoile" (star) moving incoherently high in the sky.
• August 16, St Romain-s/-Cher (41), France: A woman observed a fireball rotating on itself at incredible speed, moving towards St Aignan.
• August 16, Fréteval (41), France: A couple of vacationers were astonished by a yellow ball with a flame tail moving back and forth.
• September 5, Yonne and surroundings, France: The observation of a fireball in the Avallonnais region led to numerous press articles and testimonies collected by authorities and journalists.
• Late August/Early September, Podor, Senegal: A UFO was observed shortly before exploding in the sky over Senegal. Debris was recovered and analyzed, with some specimens reportedly becoming effervescent upon contact with water.
• October 4, Cordoba, Mendoza, Argentina: A large, bright orange spherical object with a black center was observed moving towards Chile. It oscillated and changed direction.

It's Confusion!

This section highlights instances where phenomena were mistaken for UFOs:

• Thionville, France: Witnesses who observed two greenish-white halos evolving over the clouds were misled by lasers. The gendarmerie, which also observed the phenomenon, could not identify the source.
• Paris, France: During the 30th anniversary of "La Défense," four lasers swept the sky, potentially causing confusion. The article notes that lasers have been a source of confusion for years.
• Combles/Péronne, France: A special flash on TF1 reported an unknown object falling onto the A1 highway. The object turned out to be a large disco ball, over 2 meters in diameter, intended for a Jean-Michel Jarre concert in London. This is described as one of the most significant confusions in recent years.

Insolite/Paranormal

Megaliths

• Carnac, France: The menhirs of Carnac are reportedly "unshod" (falling over) due to erosion, partly caused by repeated tourist traffic. A budget has been allocated for site preservation.
• Var, France: A classified menhir, weighing over a ton, was stolen from a garden in August.
• Burgundy, France: The review "Archeologia" featured a dossier on the megaliths of Burgundy in its September 1988 issue.

Cryptidology

• USA: A remake of the "Mothman" and "Bigfoot" phenomena is reported with the emergence of the "Lizard Man" in Bishopville. This creature is described as 2 meters tall with red eyes, three-fingered hands, and incredible strength, causing panic and collective hysteria.

Rumors

• France: A persistent rumor suggests that the accumulation of recent catastrophes is due to entering the "Age of Aquarius," causing negative waves. The alert is red until November 1988.
• France: A rumor about LSD-impregnated adhesive transfers intended for children has been circulating, causing doubt among parents and teachers. An investigation suggests this rumor lacks foundation, with its origin traced to a phantom Canadian hospital.

Mirages

• China: A rare Fata Morgana mirage was observed in June, appearing as a phantom city above the sea with perfectly visible details. A local television station produced an exceptional documentary on this phenomenon.

Sects

• France: An "Edition Spéciale" broadcast on A2 concerning sects was censored, with "shock" sequences removed. These censored reports were later broadcast during regular news programs.

Divers

• Algeria: A 23-year-old Algerian man, who is illiterate and measures 55 cm, weighing 5 kg, was denied school entry and is referred to as the "King of Lilliputians."
• France: An amnesiac man, found in a wood near Fréjus, was identified as Mr. F.B., a businessman from Cognac who had a history of disappearances. His memory gap was reportedly 20 years.

Parapsy

• France: A couple of parapsychologists from Normandy had their 3-year-old daughter taken away due to their alleged invocation of spirits, specifically those of the Third Reich, and their practice of the "Heil Hitler" salute.

Tele Scoops

Telescopages/Astronomic News

• USA: Evidence of a planet outside the Solar System has been found orbiting the star HD 114762, 90 million light-years away. Astronomers suggest this makes the existence of Earth-like planets with favorable conditions for life more plausible.
• Mars: Mars was at its closest to Earth on September 22nd, at a distance of 58.8 million km. It will be favorably positioned for observation until 2003.

• USA: Whitney Strieber's bestseller "Communion" is being adapted into a film, possibly starring Christopher Walken.

Communiqué from GPUN

An important, though unconfirmed, piece of information suggests that since spring, an official circular has ordered the Gendarmerie to cease all investigations into UFO phenomena in France. This could lead to the loss of serious testimonies and the cessation of activities for the GEPAN group in Toulouse.
