Field Research Course in Köping

"TEFATEN" I PRESSEN 1947 - 1951 ("Saucers" in the Press 1947-1951)

• October 1, 1948: Lieutenant George F. Gorman engaged in a 27-minute aerial pursuit with a flying disk over Fargo, North Dakota. Two air traffic controllers and civilians witnessed the event.
• April 8, 1949: Los Angeles Times reports park workers in Griffith Park saw a flying disk moving rapidly in a zigzag pattern, leaving a white smoke trail at an estimated altitude of 1,500 meters and a diameter of 15 meters. The Griffith Observatory reported nothing unusual.
• April 27, 1949: Los Angeles Times reports that the U.S. Air Force is investigating the possibility of flying saucers being alien aircraft. Of 240 American and 30 foreign reports, 30% were explained by meteorological balloons or meteors, another 30% had natural explanations, but 40% remained a mystery. The "Journal Herald" noted it was unlikely any other nation had advanced so far.
• April 30, 1949: The Saturday Evening Post features an article by Sidney Shalett, "Vad kan man tro om de flygande tefaten" (What can one believe about flying saucers?), quoting aviation leaders who downplayed the reports, while also describing cases that could support hallucination theories.
• July 25, 1949: Los Angeles Times reports a "winged, burning celestial wonder" observed by air traffic controllers near Atlanta. It was described as a colossal aircraft emitting a forty-foot long jet of flame, shining like a fluorescent light, and moving at 800-1,000 km/h.
• August 21, 1949: Los Angeles Times reports that two old aircraft found in a Maryland tobacco warehouse were not related to flying saucers, dismissing them as old scrap and false alarms. A photo of a 1940 rotor aircraft by Jonathan Cladwell was included.

INFORMATION från Gävleborgs UFO förening (Information from Gävleborgs UFO Association)

The Gävle UFO association has changed its name. The new name was proposed by the board and approved at a meeting on September 20, 1978. The association has held regular observation evenings at Kungsberget, which were well-attended, though UFOs did not appear. They hosted visitors from the Falu Ufo förening on September 9th. Since September 29th, there has been a significant increase in UFO sightings, with approximately 150 observation reports received from the public and members in just three weeks. This is noted as a very interesting development after a quiet period. A detailed report is promised for the next issue. The association encourages interested individuals to join and seriously investigate the phenomenon.

UFO DETECTOR Project

This section details the design and construction of a "UFO Detector" circuit. The device aims to detect magnetic disturbances associated with UFO activity.
