Main Articles and Reports
'Humanoid' Sighted by Two Boys
This article, by Holly Cogan, details an encounter reported by two young boys in the Onsted vicinity, Michigan, on December 29th. The boys, whose names are withheld, described seeing a saucer-shaped craft with red and green lights. Following this, a small, three to four feet high humanoid figure reportedly floated towards them. One boy described being "stunned" and unable to move, while the other initially called out a derogatory name. The creature followed them to the top of the hill and then retraced its path. The boys described the figure as shadowy, with a grapefruit-sized head, green wrinkled skin, and legs but no arms. One boy also reported seeing a "green smog" containing shapes, one described as a "gas mask with an elephant's trunk." The experience has caused distress, with fathers initially disbelieving their sons. The boys' drawings of the creature were similar, depicting a humanoid figure with a large head.
Ron Westrum, an expert on unidentified flying objects, interviewed the boys. He noted that eye problems, such as blurred peripheral vision, are frequent complaints from close encounter witnesses, sometimes similar to radiation burns. Westrum also mentioned that UFO sightings are becoming routine, with scientists having reached the limit of what can be learned from "rapidly moving light in the sky" reports. However, he noted that a variety of "lights in the sky" still holds interest, and suggested that the government might be involved in causing sightings or camouflaging superior intelligence's craft. He stated, "We have no problem finding traces left by our visitors. We do have trouble getting scientists to analyze those traces."
UFOs Flash Across Skies (Rouses Point, N.Y. North Countryman, April 21, 1982)
This report details numerous unidentified object sightings over Northern New York and Vermont. While some lights have been identified as special military aircraft, others remain unexplained. Reports include slow-moving objects that change color and direction, and objects with two bright white lights and a red light. Several confirmed sightings of the special military aircraft have occurred. Strange objects streaking across the sky, mostly headed north or northeast, have also been reported. Putnam County reported a triangular-shaped object hovering, speculated to be a remote-controlled model aircraft. Plattsburgh reported fireball-type objects, speculated to be meteorites. Objects were reported moving rapidly, changing color from white to green to red, and some streaked across the sky as unidentified fiery red-orange objects. UFOs have been sighted with increasing frequency since the beginning of the year.
Area couple report UFO sighting (Loveland, Cold Reporter-Herald, May 10, 1982)
An area rancher and his wife reported seeing a silver object in a meadow. They described it as having a "pod-shaped bottom" about four to five feet in length. The object took off sounding like a propeller-driven airplane and disappeared. A search of the meadow yielded no physical evidence.
UFO Sighting In Area (Lancaster, Ohio. Eagle-Gazette, May 3, 1982)
Fairfield County Sheriff's deputies responded to a report of a UFO hovering in the sky near Old Logan Road. An observer described a craft with blinking red, white, and blue lights, which hovered for approximately 20 minutes. The Sheriff's department log suggested it might have been some sort of gas in the air reflecting lights. The actual cause was not determined.
County group reports UFO sightings jumped (Latrobe, PA Bulletin, May 10, 1982)
- UFO sightings have increased dramatically in Pennsylvania since February. Reports include bright nocturnal lights making unusual maneuvers and close proximity observations of large unconventional objects. Seven close encounter incidents involving solid objects at altitudes of 100 feet or less have been reported. Stan Gordon, director of the research unit, noted that many reported UFO incidents appear to be of an unexplained origin. Sightings have been reported throughout the state, with activity concentrated in western Pennsylvania. A large triangular-shaped UFO has been described in detail by witnesses in widely separated areas. The Pennsylvania Association for the Study of the Unexplained (PASU) also receives reports of Bigfoot and sightings of Mountain Lions and Black Panthers. Specific incidents investigated include:
- Early February, Uniontown: A large metallic triangular object with small blue lights was observed moving between trees at low altitude, bearing an insignia identical to one photographed on a UFO in Spain.
- Feb. 25: A large, round object with a dome emitted a bright beam of light, hovered low, then rose straight up.
- March 23, Lawrence County: Police officers and residents observed a large bright round light hovering over homes and patrol cars.
- April, Butler County: Three witnesses observed a huge triangular object for 45 minutes, described as battleship gray with three alternating lights, which ascended vertically.
Police pursue UFO reports (Waynesboro, PA, Record Herald, May 5, 1982)
An unidentified flying object was sighted early in the morning over Waynesboro. A woman reported seeing a "star-shaped object with a long tail" heading toward the borough. Police theorized it might have been a star or a weather balloon.
Mysterious lights spotted over I-84 (Beacon, NY. News, April 30, 1982)
Dick Shea reports on sightings of unusual lights over Interstate 84. He observed a triangle of misty green lights that turned bright red, with no flashing lights and no sound. Other cars also pulled over to observe. David VanTassel and his companions also saw the object, describing it as "shaped kind of like a V, with six red lights on it." They noted it hovered and moved slowly. A fellow employee reported seeing green lights. VanTassel, with military experience, ruled out helicopters and planes due to the lack of sound. Earlier, on April 16, unexplained lights were spotted over Putnam County, described as a triangular object hovering silently with multi-colored flashing lights.
Lights Riddle In Close Encounter For George (Eastern Evening News, Norwich, London, May 19, 1982)
A young Norwich man, George Steel, and his girlfriend Cheryl Sadd, reported seeing a triangle of orange, red, and blue lights hanging almost motionless about 200 feet above the ground. Steel described it as hovering, then moving off at amazing speed. He was convinced it was not an aircraft and called it a UFO.
A curious experience (Shropshire Star, Wellington, April 17, 1982)
A reader, M.H. Jones, reported experiencing a strange warmth and an almost luminous effect on buildings while driving, wondering if it was connected to a UFO sighting reported in the Shropshire Star.
UFO sighting at Fawkham (Gravesend Report, Kent, May 14, 1982)
Police received a report of two flashing lights traveling at approximately 90 miles per hour at ground level in a field. Police officers filed a report for the government office that collates UFO information.
More eyes on UFOs (Nottingham Evening Post, May 4, 1982)
David Tate of Sneinton is setting up a new worldwide organization, the Transatlantic UFO Club, to help investigate flying saucers. He has been corresponding with an American friend for 18 years, and they plan to launch the club in 1984. Tate stated they are receiving many reports that, on the surface, do not have answers.
There's a UFO in our garden! (Hereford Evening News, May 14, 1982)
Pencompe pensioners, Percy and Patricia Lloyd, reported seeing a silver and black unidentified flying object float across their garden. They described it as hexagonal, swooping under a clothesline, flying over a fence, and descending into an adjoining field. It appeared to have corners and was black on one side and silver on the other. They watched it for 15 minutes before it disappeared into the mist.
Is there anybody out there? (Leicester Mercury, April 28, 1982)
This article discusses the growing conviction that extraterrestrial life exists and questions whether these intelligences are visiting Earth. Shirley Elsby examines an organization trying to find answers to reported UFO sightings. A specific incident from October 23, 1978, involved a strange, triangular object with bright white searchlights and colored lights underneath, seen by over 200 people in Leicestershire. UFO Research Midlands, formed in February, investigates these phenomena. Stan Gordon, director, noted that while many sightings have natural explanations (weather balloons, aircraft, space debris, meteors, stars, planets, "sundog effect"), a number of incidents appear to be of unexplained origin. The article also mentions research into a newly-discovered electrical effect called "piezo" which may be relevant to mining districts. Mark Brown, a regional investigations coordinator, expressed skepticism about alien visitations, stating, "That we are being visited by alien intelligences or by controlled craft from another world, I have very grave doubts." He believes that any phenomenon should be explainable by man's capability or Earth's forces.

The publication highlights the ongoing mystery surrounding many sightings and the public's fascination with the possibility of extraterrestrial life and visitation.
This issue of GLOBE magazine, dated May 25 to June 22, 1982, focuses heavily on UFO sightings, alien encounters, and related mysteries from around the world.
Article 1: UFO MONSTERS FROM BENEATH THE AMAZON TERRIFY NATIVES
This article, by Blanche Hodder, reports on a supposed sinister underwater UFO base located deep in the Amazon jungle, in the Santarem region of Brazil. Charles Tucker, director of the International UFO Investigative Bureau, claims to have confirmed its existence during a two-week expedition. Tucker states that UFOs are centered in this underwater base. Local fishermen, hunters, and villagers have shared chilling accounts of hostile attacks by UFOs, unexplained disappearances, and gruesome deaths. Some attacks involve deadly rays of light beamed from saucer-shaped ships. One horrifying account details a man whose body was found completely drained of blood after a UFO beamed a green light on him. The Brazilian government's investigations into these occurrences over the past two years are reportedly being kept hushed up. Major Miguel de Hollanda Lima of the Brazilian Air Force confirms spending two years investigating UFO sightings in the region, collecting hundreds of taped stories and over 300 photographs, stating that 'something inexplicable is going on' and that there must be a landing place for UFOs in the area. Three types of spacecraft have been sighted, with the most common being saucer-type, some as large as a football field. Witnesses have reported seeing occupants through portholes. Other craft are described as triangular, wedge-shaped, or silvery and cylindrical. Tucker claims that spacecraft appearances entering and leaving the underwater base are almost daily occurrences, with people waiting for night to see the lights.
Article 2: Chilling close encounter turns macho truck driver into a whimpering child
By DICK DONOVAN, this article details the experience of Ruben Meneses, a truck driver from Argentina, who claims he was kidnapped and held prisoner aboard a shimmering starship by alien creatures. Meneses, described as once-robust, has been transformed into a whimpering child, with his family physician noting he may never recover from the horror. The encounter occurred near San Luis del Palmar when Meneses saw a glaring light that stabbed into his eyes, causing him to slam on the brakes. He felt a tingling sensation and experienced what he described as floating. He found himself inside a great ship with red, green, and blue flashing lights and mirrored walls. He saw small, pale green, wrinkled creatures about three feet tall with very small foreheads and thin arms. Meneses believes the creatures erased most of his memory of the experience, but he recalls them talking to him telepathically. He was later found miles away from where he stopped his truck. His truck was scorched, and soil samples taken from the area are undergoing analysis, showing temperatures of 1,500 to 1,600 degrees, suggesting something not of this planet was present.
Article 3: I TALKED WITH UFO PILOT
This article features Donn Shallcross of Augusta, West Virginia, who claims he had an incredible telepathic conversation with the alien pilot of a UFO. Shallcross sighted what he thought was a plane landing in a field. Upon investigating, his car engine died, and his lights went out. He found a flashlight and approached two wide-apart lights. He encountered an alien, described as 5ft. 4in., about 130 pounds, wearing a silver, skin-tight garment with a visor. The alien communicated telepathically, stating his people were worried about the misuse of atomic energy and the disposal of atomic waste. Shallcross then experienced a sensation similar to teleportation, finding himself three to four feet away from a UFO described as a cereal bowl with another upside down on top. The craft hovered silently, emitting a hazy purple color. The alien said his people would return and then disappeared. Shallcross later found his body had been burned wherever it was not covered, and experienced blistering skin and sore eyes. Investigators evaluating Shallcross' experience agree that something strange happened. Gray Barker, an author on UFOs, is convinced Shallcross is telling the truth, as is lie-detector expert Carmine Pellosie.
Article 4: Star people lie in glasslike coffins, says archeologist
By BOB BORINO, this article discusses the findings of archeologist Eric Van Daniken and other experts who suggest that extraterrestrial beings have lain buried for thousands of years in underground cities connected by tunnels beneath western Brazil, Peru, and Ecuador. Van Daniken's attempts to penetrate these tunnels have been hindered by storms, jungles, and a hostile Indian tribe. He hopes to return with financial support. Van Daniken has spoken to the chief of a tribe guarding a site at Akakor in southwestern Brazil. The chief claims five humanoids, referred to as the 'living dead,' lie perfectly preserved in glasslike coffins. Van Daniken believes astronauts visited Earth over 100,000 years ago and bred with humans, explaining ancient beliefs of gods. German author Karl Brugger also met the tribal chief, Tatunca, and reports only four bodies, described as human-like but with six fingers and six toes. The underground cities are reportedly brightly lit, with metal machines and objects scattered around. Brugger mentions a room with a rocket-like flying machine and a 'metallic library' consisting of metal leaves with unknown writing, possibly created to outlast ages. The first outsider to find tunnels in Ecuador was Juan Moricz in 1967.
Article 5: Abducted by UFOs – 4 Times
This article by an unnamed author details the experiences of Barbara Schutte, a 31-year-old nurse from Wever, Iowa, who claims to have been abducted by aliens four times. Her first abduction occurred when she was 8 years old. Under hypnosis by Dr. R. Leo Sprinkle, a University of Wyoming psychologist and UFO expert, Schutte recalled being escorted to a small room with bright lights and seeing her abductors, described as little, child-like beings with black eyes and baby-soft skin. She also recalled a tall alien, 'like a soldier,' with a V-shaped design on his uniform, who acted friendly. Her third abduction in September involved a 'derby hat' shaped craft with flashing lights. Schutte also experienced a painful examination and woke up with bruises. Under hypnosis, she learned she was abducted again in February, floated from her home to a spacecraft, and had fluid injected into her. She awoke with puncture marks and bruises. She now believes abductions do happen.
Article 6: Deidre scans the skies
By ALAN ORNSTIN, this article features Deirdre O'Neill, organizer for the London area of the British UFO Society. O'Neill recounts her only sighting of an Unidentified Flying Object in 1975 near Warminster, UK. She saw an orange dot that grew into a bright orange ball, which moved in a complex pattern, splitting into multiple lights before disappearing. O'Neill explains Allen Hynek's six-part classification of UFO sightings, including Close Encounters of the First, Second, and Third Kind (CE1, CE2, CE3), and the addition of Close Encounters of the Fourth Kind (CE4) for those who report lost time and abduction experiences. She notes that many people, including police and army officers, have reported sightings, and she is convinced that objects flying about are not man-made and that life exists on other planets. She expresses skepticism about theories of aliens coming from underground or living alongside humans undetected. The British UFO Society encourages detailed reporting of sightings.
Article 7: 'Close Encounters' encountered by couple
By Dianna Gordon, this article reports on Mike and Sue Hopkins of Elizabeth, Colorado, who witnessed an unexplained event on May 27. While traveling near the LeRoy Evans ranch, they saw a brightly lit object hovering about 20 feet off the ground. Sue described it as a UFO with three big white lights and a row of red and white lights. The object sounded like a jet only when it got close and was moving slowly. Mike confirmed it was low, clearing the tops of the trees. Upon returning home, they found pictures drawn by their children on napkins depicting an unusual object with bright lights, which the children said had flown over the house multiple times. The children were scared, and Mike recalled seeing something similar before.
