Eerie Glow Puts Holes in Ground (By Bob Pratt)

This article details a sighting by Abe and Betty Hildebrand on May 2, 1975, near Morden, Manitoba, Canada. Awakened by their dogs, they observed a fluorescent glow, about twice the size of a car and 10-12 feet high, hovering in their driveway. The object made no sound and did not appear to move. The next morning, they discovered four round holes in the sod, approximately two inches in diameter and three inches deep, arranged in two sets about 29 and 22 inches apart, with the sets about four feet apart. The report notes that farmers in Canada often work around the clock due to the short growing season.

Two UFO Sightings Are Reported (Front Page - ROBERSONVILLE, N.C. HERALD, Dec. 7, 1981)

Two separate sightings of unidentified flying objects occurred in Martin County, North Carolina, on a Saturday night. At 9:08 p.m., an object described as long and oval-shaped, emitting a white light and hovering at treetop height without sound, was seen over Martin Plaza and followed into the River Fill area of Bertie County before disappearing. At 9:10 p.m., a multi-colored object with extremely bright lifts was sighted over Hamilton, moving up and down without sound. These reports are noted as the first official ones in the area in some time, but are part of a continuing number of sightings in eastern North Carolina.

UFO? Andalusians Report Seeing Strange Objects (ANDALUSIA, ALA, STAR NEWS, Dec. 10, 1981)

This article by KAY KIRKLAND reports on sightings in Andalusia, Alabama. Michael Caine, 17, and his sister Juanita, 15, witnessed a bright light that changed size and color (from dark red to yellow) while riding their bicycles home from Columbia General Hospital. They felt the light was following them. The light remained visible for about 35 minutes. The following day, the light appeared again, seemingly from a different direction. Radar facilities at Fort Rucker reported no unidentified aircraft. Air Force officials, represented by physics instructor Frank Lin, state that about 90 percent of UFO reports are explainable, but 10 percent remain unexplained. They advise reporting sightings to meteorological bureaus and local airports, and if still unexplained, to the Air Force.

Tribespeople Spot U.F.O. (LIHUE, HAWAII GARDEN ISLAND, Nov. 12, 1981)

Tribespeople on a remote Indonesian island reported spotting a UFO on October 27. They described it as red and flashing as it sped across the sky and exploded in flames. Ronnie Stalls and his wife Cecilia saw something glimmering over the treetops. Williamston had its third sighting in a week with three youngsters reporting 'disc-shaped' objects. Skeptical Williamston Police Chief James D. Thompson suggested it might be man-made. Henry H. Morton of Wadesboro, coordinator for the Mutual UFO Network, stated that 'the days of pooh-poohing are over' due to the abundance of sightings. Johnson followed an object described as 'roundish' with two decks illuminated by a bright white light, which disappeared. The Stalls also reported something hovering with different colored lights.

The object was low enough to light up the landscape. The couple wishes to remain anonymous until the sighting is investigated. The article also mentions several people reporting strange sightings over Plymouth around the same time.

Mystery White Light Has the Sky Watchers All at Sea (SUNDAY EXPRESS LONDON, Dec. 20, 1981)

Malcolm Littlejohn, an experienced yachtsman, spotted a bright, white light over the sea while stuck in a traffic jam. Police and coastguards received dozens of calls about similar lights. One couple reported seeing five white lights encircling a single big white light. A lifeboat was launched to investigate a report of a bright light during a storm, but found nothing. Coastguard Peter Cherriman suggests the lights might be the planet Venus, which is low and bright, but acknowledges that Venus would not be visible in stormy weather or thick cloud cover. Astronomer Mr Gordon Taylor of the Greenwich Observatory is also unsure, noting that Venus would not be visible in such conditions and does not have small satellites.

Couldn't Believe His 'Pupils' (KEIGHLEY NEWS, YORKS, LONDON, Dec. 31, 1981)

An Oakworth teacher, George Dimitrejevic, reported seeing an orange glow low in the sky above Oxenhope. He thought it unusual and stopped to look. The article mentions that UFO sightings have been reported steadily in the Keighley area for four years and that a spate of sightings from the summer of 1980 were reported in response to an appeal by UFO experts concerning the death of Mr. Zygmunt Jan Adamski.

Recurring Themes and Editorial Stance

The recurring themes in this issue of UFO NEWS are the prevalence and variety of UFO sightings, the detailed accounts of eyewitnesses, and the ongoing efforts to investigate these phenomena. There is a clear emphasis on reporting firsthand experiences, often highlighting the fear and bewilderment of those who witness these events. The magazine also touches upon the skepticism faced by witnesses and the media's role in publicizing these sightings. The editorial stance appears to be one of documenting and presenting these reports, allowing readers to draw their own conclusions, while also acknowledging the existence of unexplained cases and the public's interest in the possibility of extraterrestrial life. The inclusion of foreign correspondents and reports from different countries suggests a global perspective on UFO phenomena.

This issue of the GAINESVILLE GA. TIMES, dated November 11, 1981, features a prominent cover story titled "UFO article brings out UFO spotters," indicating a surge of public interest in UFO sightings following a previous article. The issue includes reports from various locations, detailing witness accounts, descriptions of aerial phenomena, and initial investigations.

UFO article brings out UFO spotters

The main article by DAWN HOLCOMB reports on the increased number of people coming forward with UFO sightings after a previous article in the Times. One Gainesville resident described a bright object that would sit in place for a while before darting toward the lake, noting its intensity surpassed the North Star. Another report came from two women who saw a "big ball of lights" descend rapidly. A Gainesville resident also reported seeing "the brightest danged lights I'd ever seen." Sightings were also reported in the Dawsonville Highway area. While helicopters from the Ranger Camp in Dahlonega were suggested as a possible explanation, one witness stated the object made no noise, unlike a helicopter. The article concludes that there is no definite explanation yet, but investigations are ongoing.

Tremors And UFOs Noted On Friday 13

This section details separate reports from local residents concerning UFOs and earth tremors. In the Garnett Lane area, residents reported earth-like tremors that rattled windows. Simultaneously, city police investigated a report of strange lights near a Glenview Drive residence on Thursday night. Joan Scarbrough described the tremors as violent, like a "car hitting the house." Shirley Pitzer, wife of Dr. Frank Pitzer, also reported tremors shaking windows and rattling glassware. Her father, J.W. Akers, corroborated the tremor reports. Officials at Fort Campbell and nearby rock quarries denied any blasting activity. Separately, city police received a report from a 17-year-old girl about three bright white lights in the sky near her Glenview Drive home, which seemed to vanish when she tried to show someone inside.

UFOS - Professor's not sure

This article features Dr. Donald Robinson, a physics, astronomy, and meteorology professor at the University of Maine at Farmington, who has never seen a UFO but is open to the possibility. He emphasizes the need for hard evidence and discusses natural phenomena that could explain some sightings, such as temperature, air pressure, and moisture affecting light behavior, ice crystals bending light, and "looming" which can make distant lights appear closer. He also mentions meteor showers and reflections of the sun off satellites as potential explanations. Robinson distinguishes between belief based on evidence and faith, noting that many sightings are qualitative and influenced by emotional factors. He also touches on the possibility of extraterrestrial life based on a "numbers game" of stars and planets.

Expert in Bay State Starks may visit site at

Joan Thompson, a member of the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) in Cambridge, Mass., commented that she might visit the Starks site where a UFO was reported. She noted a recent increase in sightings across Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. MUFON investigates UFO sightings, and Thompson plans to photograph the area, interview witnesses, and collect report forms. A drawing by a 10-year-old Canaan boy of a UFO he saw is also featured. The object was described as house-sized with emitting lights and moved rapidly. Ray Fowler, director of the Center for UFO Studies, noted similarities between this sighting and one in New Hampton, N.H. Officials from Loring, Plattsburg, and Pease Air Force Bases stated they had no craft assigned in the area. The Federal Aviation Agency noted they cannot track all small planes.

UFO sighting attracts interest

This article reports on the national interest generated by UFO sightings in the Starks area. Ray Fowler of the Center for UFO Studies noted a pattern of sightings in areas with low-lying swamps, including Starks. Robert Gribble of the National UFO Research Center expressed interest in sending a research party. Loring Air Force Base officials stated they would check their radar. Witnesses Kenos Henry and Harold "Bud" Hendsbee expressed fear and a desire to forget the experience. A private organization, Parallel Phenomenon Research, is investigating. The article also includes crime statistics for Texas City and Galveston.

Sante Fe Police investigated the sighting but saw no UFOs.

Multi-colored UFO starts Texas panic

This article details a series of UFO sightings over Galveston County, Texas, for three consecutive nights. Witnesses described a "big round object with white lights that had some red and green colors with it." The object was seen by town constable Joe Scrosne, who described it as man-made and not a star or planet. The craft reportedly sped south toward Galveston, prompting numerous calls to police. Air controllers and the weather service reported seeing nothing unusual. The Coast Guard suggested the lights might be reflections from a burning gas well. Sam McQueen described the object as moving and descending. Amateur astronomer Brenda Placette stated the light was 10 times brighter than Vega. An amateur astronomer in San Antonio also reported seeing it. Eyewitness Rick Shaw concluded it was not from Earth.

The object reportedly projected a white beam and emitted a whooshing sound. A family traveling in the area reported their car losing power and the radio developing static. The car also reportedly began moving backward when stopped. Two sisters and a friend also reported a similar experience with a noise. Enion is asking for more information and stated her agency contacts about 15-20 sources to explain sightings. Another sighting in Avella, Washington County, involved a house being shaken. Witnesses reported three objects joining and separating. Enion noted that this is the first time a circular beam has been reported.

Harrison County man, two others tell of UFO sightings

A Harrison County man, who wishes to remain anonymous, reported seeing a UFO on November 24, 1981. He described it as a domed, silver metallic object with lights, hovering silently. He believes it was not man-made and that "there's something." A 13-year-old neighbor also reported seeing a flashing red light. The man described the object as having a wingspan comparable to a DC-9. He also mentioned a smaller object that may have been a scout for a "mother ship." The object reportedly followed him and his girlfriend for about a quarter of a mile before heading northwest. He was not burned by radiation. Gregg County Airport officials and the Harrison County Sheriff's Office had no reports. Mrs. Jean Fuller, a UFO researcher, stated she had received at least one report of stationary bright lights.

Fiery ball streaks across skies

This article reports on sightings of a mysterious red and green ball-shaped object with a fiery tail over Missouri skies. This article from the Liverpool Daily Post describes a mysterious light in the sky baffling residents near the Clwyd-Gwynedd border. Mrs. Cath Roberts and her husband Ron, a former policeman, were among those who saw the bright light on the Berwyn mountains. Gary Rowe, a UFO follower, noted that unusual sightings are often recorded in this part of North Wales around this time of year.

Aliens in the atmosphere?

This article from the Western Evening Herald reports on Devon UFO enthusiasts checking several sightings over Plymouth. Eight people reported seeing a "flying cross with a diffused light in the centre." Similar sightings were reported over South Devon previously.

Recurring Themes and Editorial Stance

The recurring themes in this collection of articles are the widespread nature of UFO sightings across different geographical locations and the consistent pattern of witnesses describing unusual aerial phenomena that defy conventional explanations. There is a clear emphasis on witness testimony, with many individuals coming forward to share their experiences. The articles highlight the efforts of various UFO research groups and organizations in collecting and investigating these reports. While some official sources, like the Air Force and FAA, offer potential conventional explanations (e.g., aircraft, weather balloons), these are often met with skepticism by witnesses who insist on the anomalous nature of what they observed. The editorial stance appears to be one of reporting on these phenomena and the public's reaction to them, without definitively endorsing or dismissing the existence of UFOs. The articles often conclude with a lack of concrete explanation, underscoring the ongoing mystery surrounding these sightings.

This issue of the "Twin Cities Times" from October 8, 1981, features a cover story titled "Corte Maderans' Close Encounter," detailing a sighting by Lori and Jerry Morgan. The magazine also includes reports on UFO sightings from various locations, including Nevada County, Sacramento, England, Brazil, Sweden, and the Himalayas, alongside discussions on government secrecy and scientific perspectives on UFOs.

Corte Maderans' Close Encounter

The lead article by Francine Némitz recounts the experience of Lori and Jerry Morgan of Corte Madera, California, who reported a close encounter with a UFO on September 15, 1981. The object, described as a gray metallic craft shaped like a rounded disc, hovered over their home, emitting a humming sound and illuminated by a blue light. They described the experience as surreal, as if they were observing themselves from a third-person perspective. The Morgans contacted authorities and KTIM, but received no confirmation. Following the encounter, their lives became synchronistic, leading them to believe they were meant to help prepare society for changes on Earth. Jerry suggested their strong desire for answers might have attracted the UFO, stating, "True intention is demonstrated by attainment no matter how it comes. Our desire was out there... They picked up on it." Lori believes humanity is at "the hour of midnight" on a cosmic clock and that the key is to spread love and understanding, turning negativity around.

UFOs Fill Sky: Area Gets Its Full Share Of Close Encounters

An East Sacramento couple described an oval, translucent object trailing a kitelike tail. Tom Gates, a spokesman for the Bay Area's UFO hot line, noted a "rash of sightings" in the region, with 12 to 15 reports in October, including "very close encounters." He also mentioned that October historically sees more UFO reports than any other month.

Strange Encounter with a Huge UFO Sends Driver Back in Time

Reported by Dick Donovan in the Lantana, FL. Weekly World News (December 1, 1981), this story details salesman Alan Cave's encounter with a UFO in England. While driving, he saw a bright, glowing orange object resembling a "fat cigar." Afterward, his watch and a digital clock pen had lost three hours, and his car's odometer was moving backward, estimating a loss of about 300 miles. Alan believes he may have traveled back in time. The British Flying Saucer Research Bureau is investigating similar reports of time loss. Alan's wife, Susan, was amazed by the experience, and Alan stated he suffered no ill effects but the memory lingers.

Info. on UFOs a Closely Guarded US Secret

This opinion piece by Mark Hayter in the Conroe Texas Courier (November 23, 1981) suggests that the U.S. government is hiding information about extraterrestrial visitors. Hayter criticizes the government's tendency to dismiss sightings as swamp gas or flares, and speculates about secret information, even the bodies of alien beings, being stored at the Smithsonian. He argues that knowing about alien visits could harm society by reducing productivity and devaluing land. Hayter trusts Carl Sagan for factual information and notes Sagan's belief in extraterrestrial life but doubt about alien visits to Earth, citing the immense speed required for space travel. He also mentions Sagan's idea of beings from the "fourth dimension."

UFOs Murder Four Men

This National Enquirer article (December 29, 1981) reports on the alleged killing of four Brazilian hunters by UFOs in northern Brazil. Police Chief Geraldo dos Santos Magela confirmed that two of the victims' bodies were drained of blood, describing it as "like a space vampire." Mayor Manoel Barros stated that residents live in terror of UFO attacks. The article details the incidents involving Abel Boro, Raimundo Souza, Anastacio Barbosa, Jose Vitorio, and Dionizio General, all of whom reportedly died after encounters with UFOs. Charles Tucker of the International UFO Investigative Bureau is quoted as saying this is the first case of a UFO murdering humans, though he doesn't believe a general trend is starting.

A UFO On Top Of The World?

The Edmonton Sun (October 11, 1981) reports that Italian mountaineer Reinhold Messner and his climbing partner Doug Scott sighted a UFO in the Himalayas. Messner described the object as "the size of a full moon" and observed it for nearly three hours as it drifted south into Nepal from Tibet. He stated it moved slowly and irregularly, unlike a satellite. A nearby Polish-British expedition also reportedly sighted the object.

UFO Peace Force Poised to Save the World

This GLOBE article (January 5, 1982) suggests that a "rash of UFO sightings" indicates aliens are coming to save mankind from a cataclysmic end of the world, predicted to occur when the nine planets align on December 25th. Ralph Schneck, president of Survival Center Systems, warns of massive earthquakes, tidal waves, and a comet collision. The article lists several signs, including increased UFO sightings globally, ancient constructions identified as landing sites, and interpretations of the New Testament pointing to salvation. Dr. Wanda Lockwood, a metaphysicist, states that aliens are interested in earthlings for their own good. The article also mentions UFO sightings over Moscow, fiery orange UFOs in Kentucky, a cigar-shaped UFO in Roswell, New Mexico, and a case in England where a man died from burns attributed to a UFO experiment.

Phantom Subs That Suddenly Vanish Baffle Swedish Navy

This article, likely from The ENQUIRER, reports on phantom submarines sighted in Swedish waters. Swedish Navy Cmdr. Sven Carlsson stated that these craft have extraordinary maneuverability and mysteriously vanish when approached. Since 1975, there have been 68 reports, with only one identified as a Soviet submarine. Cmdr. Erik Ingers noted that these phantom ships have been a mystery for over 10 years. One witness, Karl Gustav Frederiksson, described an "alien ship" that vanished moments before a collision. Charles Tucker of the International UFO Investigative Bureau believes these objects might be underwater UFOs, citing numerous reports in the area.

Soviet scientist calls for study of UFOs

Reported by Nigel Wade in Moscow, this piece features Soviet physicist Dr. Vsevolod Troitskiy, who calls for thorough study of UFOs, stating they exist and should not be immediately linked with beings from other planets. He acknowledges the possibility of intelligent life elsewhere in the universe and suggests that UFOs might be extra-terrestrial flying apparatuses. Dr. Troitskiy organized a symposium on "Search for Intelligence in the Universe" and believes that the phenomenon exists and requires study to establish the truth.

"UFO" here

This article from the Tahlequah Okla. Pictorial Press (December 10, 1981) describes a UFO sighting over the southern sky on a Wednesday evening. Police Dispatcher Sheryl Blish reported four sightings. The object was described as moving faster than any airplane and disappeared instantly. The sighting lasted approximately two seconds. The event was reported to KJRH in Tulsa and the national clearinghouse for UFO sightings.

UFO baffles area

This report from the Skowhegan Maine Somerset Reporter (December 3, 1981) details a UFO sighting in Starks, Maine. Sheriff's Deputy Harold "Bud" Hendsbee and his wife saw a "bright light" twice. The object appeared to try and block their vehicle. Other residents reported similar sightings. Sheriff William Wright referred to Hendsbee as "honest, capable" and stated that the matter is "no longer a laughing matter" due to the number of coincidences.

Recurring Themes and Editorial Stance

The recurring themes in this collection of articles revolve around UFO sightings, close encounters, and the potential implications for humanity. There's a consistent thread of mystery surrounding these phenomena, with many reports highlighting inexplicable behaviors of the objects, such as sudden disappearances, unusual speed, and advanced maneuverability. The issue also touches upon government secrecy regarding UFO information, with some articles suggesting a cover-up. The potential for extraterrestrial contact ranges from benevolent intentions (saving humanity) to hostile actions (alleged killings). Scientific and expert opinions are presented, often with a call for more research and a cautious approach to definitive conclusions. The overall stance appears to be one of presenting these reports as credible phenomena that warrant serious attention and investigation, rather than dismissing them outright.

I wish we had never reported what we saw.

— Harold "Bud" Hendsbee
