Magazine Overview

Title: UFO-NYT
Issue Date: April 1961
Publisher: S. U. F. O. I. (Scandinavian UFO-investigation)
Country: Denmark
Language: Danish

This issue of UFO-NYT, published by the Scandinavian UFO-investigation (S.U.F.O.I.), aims to foster knowledge and interest in UFO phenomena and related scientific endeavors. The magazine features articles on international cooperation in space research, potential dangers of radioactivity, and reports of UFO sightings and alleged underwater bases.

Aktuelt (Current Affairs)

The "Aktuelt" section highlights an international call for space research to be prioritized, initiated by George Adamski in August 1960. It emphasizes that space research is seen as the only way forward for humanity. The article criticizes the current scientific focus on the wrong research directions, urging a unified effort to understand the truth. It introduces a "new phase" in the UFO movement proposed by the Australian organization "Queensland Flying Saucer Research Bureau." This initiative, dated February 6, 1961, seeks global cooperation for space research, disarmament, peace, and understanding among all nations and races. The proposal argues that such ideals cannot be achieved through governmental or diplomatic means, but rather through the efforts of unknown individuals representing groups with similar thinking worldwide. UFO scientific groups are called upon to morally elevate themselves and assist humanity's survival. The core argument is that working on a scientific basis will compel governments to listen to advice. The text warns of the dangers of radioactive fallout from atomic experiments, predicting a critical period between 1962-1965 and a more dangerous phase between 1975-85, when radiation belts might descend. It calls for collecting data and evidence from 1945 onwards and conducting inspections of local radiation levels. Furthermore, it stresses the importance of educating the public about extraterrestrial visitors and fostering interest in space projects to prepare humanity for global measurement results.

The article also discusses the need for groups to investigate the reasons for scientific errors and the mysteries surrounding visitors from space. It mentions the development of a well-equipped laboratory and the intention to share findings through magazines and circulars, ensuring that discoveries benefit all groups globally and prevent any single government from monopolizing them for destructive purposes. The proposal suggests seeking legal assistance for potential difficulties and proposes a system where UFO magazines collect and distribute material internationally, with each country having a shared publication in its own language. The goal is to create a respectable, interesting, and inspiring monthly magazine that can improve and enlighten humanity. To facilitate this, only one group per country will be contacted, and they are expected to act as the national center or forward the information to a more organized entity.

UFO-NYT - Page 61-64 (Aktuelt continued)

This part of the "Aktuelt" section elaborates on the proposed international cooperation. It suggests that this work is crucial for creating a neutralisation of dangerous radiation and intensifying a unified space science program. It advocates for a shift from destructive to constructive applications of atomic science, which would prevent economic imbalance. The initiative aims to make scientists aware of the wrong direction of current scientific research and guide them towards more beneficial work. It is emphasized that this program requires a shift in thinking to prepare for situations that could threaten all life. The article suggests that breakthroughs are likely to come from amateur scientists not bound by conventional scientific dogma. It proposes that each group establish a committee to investigate the flaws in current science and the mysteries of UFO visitors. The magazine plans to share discoveries and work through magazines and circulars, ensuring global access to information. It also recommends seeking legal assistance and suggests that national groups should collect and distribute material internationally, ideally in English, to facilitate communication.

Månens atmosfære (The Moon's Atmosphere)

This article discusses the Soviet rocket Lunik II's impact on the Moon in September 1959. It reports that in October, information was released about the detection of a lunar atmosphere starting at an altitude of 6,213.7 miles (10,000 km) from the Moon's surface. This atmosphere is described as a blanket of low-voltage energy from ionized gases, similar to Earth's ionosphere. The article notes that radio reports did not mention a magnetic field, but suggests one must exist to hold the gases and create gravity. It speculates that breathing on the Moon's surface would be difficult due to the atmosphere's lower density compared to Earth's, requiring an acclimatization period of about 24 hours. The author references Adamski's book, suggesting this new information challenges old scientific ideas about the Moon.

UFO-NYT - Page 65 (UFO-formationer set i New Hampshire)

This section reports on UFO formations observed in New Hampshire, USA, on two consecutive evenings in February 1960. The first sighting on February 3rd involved three flying objects in a northern direction, two with a yellow-orange glow and one pulsing red. The pulsing object then ejected a fourth, and a fifth UFO joined the formation. These objects moved faster than a jet and disappeared behind mountains. The following night, three luminous UFOs in formation were seen near East Madison, flying from south to north. The third object in this formation also pulsed regularly from yellow to red. The report is attributed to the Tyneside UFO-Society.

UFO-NYT - Page 66-67 (Spørgsmål og svar - Questions and Answers)

This section features a Q&A based on material from George Adamski and Lucy Mc. Ginnis, titled "Cosmic Science: Questions and Answers." The questions delve into the nature of "masters" encountered by Adamski, their connection to predetermined destinies, and their understanding of universal laws. Adamski clarifies that he uses the term "master" to refer to wise men from other planets who possess profound knowledge and understanding of universal laws, far exceeding human comprehension. He emphasizes their humility, compassion, and ability to see the cause and effect of actions. These beings, described as normal physical beings, have a deep understanding of life and the cosmos, and their civilization is built on peace and understanding, contrasting with Earth's history of destruction. They do not claim dominion but acknowledge their advanced understanding, believing that all beings will eventually reach a similar level of knowledge. The text also touches upon the concept of reincarnation and the transition to new bodies, which is viewed not as death but as moving to a new home.

The article further discusses humanity's failure to recognize its own potential, leading to a reliance on mystery and superstition. It argues that the fundamental laws of the cosmos are simple and that with increased understanding, one can discern truth from falsehood. The Q&A section also includes practical advice for individuals wishing to contribute to the UFO investigation movement, suggesting that further information will be provided later.

UFO-NYT - Page 67 (UFOernes hemmelige baser - UFOs' Secret Bases)

This article by D. Vanwalter discusses the possibility of secret underwater UFO bases. It recounts incidents of large, luminous "wheels" emerging from the ocean depths, described as fantastic and frightening, emitting a sulfurous smell and steam. These phenomena have been reported since 1947 in various locations, including the Persian Gulf, Malacca Strait, the China Sea, the Mediterranean, the mid-Pacific, near Japan, the Carolines, Mexico, and California. Charles Fort is cited as suggesting these might be "super constructions." The article points to deep ocean trenches, such as those in the Mexican Gulf, near Porto-Rico, the Philippines, Japan, Rio-Kion, Bonin, and the Mariana Trench, as ideal locations for UFO bases. It suggests that UFOs travel through space and gather at these bases. The author notes the scientific interest in these deep ocean areas and questions whether the malfunctioning of compasses and other instruments near the Carolines is a coincidence. The article concludes by urging further investigation of these underwater areas, stating that these unidentified underwater craft are not Russian.

UFO-NYT - Page 68 (Pressen skrev - Press Clippings)

This section compiles various press mentions related to space research and UFOs. It notes a general increase in articles about space research and the possibility of life on other planets. Several Danish newspapers are cited for reporting on UFO sightings and lectures: "Tidens Krav" reported a luminous object over Sunndalsøra; "Horsens Social-Demokrat" covered an observation being investigated by SUFOI Horsens and also reported on the Russian stance on UFOs; "Holbæk Amts Venstreblad" mentioned mysterious signals from space detected by an engineer in Trondheim; "Randers Dagblad" and "Aarhus Stiftstidende" reviewed lectures by Frank Pedersen; "Herning Social-Demokrat," "Herning Folkeblad," and "Viborg Stiftstidende" reported on a UFO incident near Sunds; "Kolding Folkeblad" covered a SUFOI-Kolding lecture on UFOs; and "Villabyernes Blad" reported an observation over Gentofte. Other mentions include Skanderborg Amtsavis announcing UFO lectures, Langelands Avis reporting on UFO observations during a solar eclipse, and Dannevirke featuring an article about strange nighttime occurrences on the west coast. The section also notes a report about the Russians' denial of UFOs in "Roskilde Social-Demokrat," an article in "Vejle Amts Folkeblad" about difficult UFO observation conditions, and a humorous article by John Miller. Lidt om Mars (A Little About Mars)

This section discusses a theory from the Soviet journal "Sovjetunionen i dag" (Soviet Union Today) by Sinaida Parschina. The theory posits that Mars has not only low-level plant life but also higher forms with complex metabolic processes. This is based on spectral analysis of Earth plants compared to Martian areas. The author notes that while scientific progress is slow, it is thorough.

Fra UFO-sagens grænseland (From the Borderland of the UFO Case)

This part speculates on Mars's two moons, Deimos and Phobos, suggesting they might be artificial. It is claimed they were sent up to utilize magnetic field lines, directing free energy (gravitational plasma) into certain paths. Since gravitational plasma repels light, this would explain the faintness of Martian canals. The launch of these moons is also blamed for Mars's unfavorable climate due to water vapor being ejected into space. The author also mentions a proposal for an artificial moon around Earth, which could cause catastrophic climate changes, and questions why Martians haven't warned us.

Glødende objekter (Glowing Objects)

A brief report mentions four strangely glowing objects seen over Broken Hill, Australia, on July 21, 1959. This sighting occurred shortly after a similar object was seen over Woomer.

SUFOI Congress

Information is provided about an upcoming SUFOI congress in Fredericia on Sunday, May 7th. Attendance is limited to members and invited guests, including the press. Further details will be sent to individuals.

Nasa får ny chef (Nasa Gets New Chief)

Mr. James E. Webb has been appointed as the new administrator for NASA, succeeding Dr. T. Keith Glennan. Webb's background includes roles in government budget departments, educational services, and aviation companies.

UDFORSKNING AF RUMMET (Exploration of Space)

This article discusses the early stages of space exploration, particularly the Moon studies. It highlights that even failed attempts yield valuable information. The author references George Adamski's earlier reports about conditions beyond Earth's atmosphere, including the lack of oxygen in Earth's atmosphere according to Russian Sputnik observations. Adamski's work suggested that instruments must be sent deep into a planet's ionosphere to obtain accurate atmospheric data. The article also mentions that the Brazilian Air Force and government circles have admitted the existence of extraterrestrial visitors and possess photographic evidence. It further discusses a US policy that penalizes pilots for revealing details of UFO observations.

The article notes the controversy between those who believe in extraterrestrial life and those who don't, with the latter relying on instruments. It suggests that those who deny the possibility of intelligent life elsewhere in the solar system often ignore or fail to study relevant facts.

Århundredes STØRSTE BEGIVENHED (The Greatest Event of the Century)

This section introduces a brochure containing six essays that were originally published in "Sunday Standard," the Sunday edition of "Indian Express." These essays are described as discussing what is considered the greatest event of the century: the appearance of spacecraft from other worlds. The authors express hope that the brochure will generate interest in this significant event, which they believe heralds a new era for humanity. They thank the Express Newspapers for publishing the essays.

Article No. 4, by S. K. Maitra, discusses the appearance of spaceships from other worlds as the greatest event of the century, surpassing all others in significance and potential for the human race. It suggests this event ushers in a new age that will fundamentally transform human civilization. The author quotes Sri Aurobindo, who stated that humanity is not destined to die but is undergoing a transition to a higher stage. The appearance of strange spaceships is seen as a message of liberation, indicating that humanity is meant to be more than just earthbound and has a role to play in the cosmos. To solve earthly problems, humans must elevate themselves to a cosmic level. The article criticizes governments for attempting to hide these signs of a new era and calls for transparency.

It also highlights the perceived systematic deception by authorities regarding UFOs, citing a response from the British Under-Secretary for Air, who stated that only 54 unidentified flying objects were reported in 12 months, most of which were identified as meteors, balloons, or aircraft. The magazine's editor dismisses this as an absurd and evasive answer, noting that UFO reports are much more frequent. The article criticizes the government's intention to provide vague answers and mentions similar instances in the UK and a case in America where a man was institutionalized for reporting a UFO encounter.

UFO-landing ved CAMPINAS (UFO Landing at CAMPINAS)

This detailed report describes a UFO landing that occurred in September 1957 near Campinas, Brazil. A farmer and his workers witnessed a disc-shaped object with a dome. Three figures, approximately 1.70 meters tall, emerged from the craft and moved with agility. They examined the machine and its surroundings. One figure carried a device resembling a radar antenna. The figures later collected samples from the area. The machine was described as a three-stage craft with a disc-shaped middle section and landing gear consisting of three large spheres. The material of a 'rivet' on the machine was identified as a plastic-like substance, not metal. The report notes similarities to George Adamski's accounts, specifically regarding the hovering of the craft and the protective caps on the landing spheres.

Gesanten fra Orion (The Emissary from Orion)

This is a poem by Olaf Gynt, describing a visitation from an emissary from Orion. The emissary brings a message of renewal and a new understanding of God, suggesting that humanity is part of a larger cosmic community and that billions of planets are inhabited. The poem speaks of a transformation of human life and the potential for humanity to evolve beyond its current limitations.

Recurring Themes and Editorial Stance

The recurring themes in this issue include UFO sightings and reports from various locations, particularly Scandinavia. There is a strong emphasis on the significance of these events as potentially heralding a new era for humanity. The magazine expresses a critical stance towards governments and official bodies, accusing them of secrecy and misinformation regarding UFO phenomena. The belief in extraterrestrial life and the possibility of contact is a central tenet. The issue also promotes the work of organizations like SUFOI and individuals like George Adamski, who are seen as pioneers in understanding these phenomena. The editorial stance is one of advocating for greater transparency and public awareness of UFO-related matters.

Title: UFO-NYT
Issue Date: November-December 1960
Content: This issue, number 79, focuses on UFO reports from November and December 1960, primarily from the United States, with a notable case study from Denmark involving photographic evidence.

American UFO Notes: November-December 1960

The magazine presents a compilation of UFO sightings from various locations:

  • Caracas, Venezuela: Glowing UFOs were observed for an entire week, reported in the 'Caracas Daily Journal' on November 13th.
  • Oklahoma City, USA: A silver-shining UFO was sighted at 3:30 PM.
  • Windsor, Ontario, Canada: 'Metallic material' reportedly fell from the sky. No aircraft were present at the time, and the incident was mentioned in the Flint, Michigan Journal on December 11th, 1960, as a UPI dispatch.
  • Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada: Northern lights were visible at 2:00 AM. Simultaneously, in Peoria, Illinois, northern lights were also reported. A strong white light that remained stationary was observed. At 7:30 AM in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA, a 'red sky with white stripes' was reported.
  • Multiple US Locations: A wide range of reports came from Cincinnati, Ohio; Dillsbord, Indiana; Switzerland County, Indiana; Fort Knox; Canton; Manchester, Ohio; Hillsboro, Ohio; Peoria; Marys-ville; Warsaw; Hardins Burg; Irvington; Veval; Dillsbord; Evansville; Florence; India; and Napolis. The objects reported were often red, compared to burning planes or red flames, while others described a double object. Investigations concluded that these were not ordinary aircraft.
  • Cincinnati, Ohio (Midnight): A clear UFO was observed, reported in the 'Cincinnati Post' and 'Times Star'. At the same time, a clear UFO was seen stationary in the sky over Kirkwood, Missouri.
  • Tokyo, Japan: The 'Tokyo Astronomical Observatory' reported to 'Associated Press' observing what appeared to be the largest solar flare in years.
  • Various US States (Albany, N.Y., Chicago, Cincinnati, Petoskey, Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, Michigan, Wisconsin, New York): From 6:00 AM to 6:15 AM, a clear light was seen in the sky. Some described it as cigar-shaped, while others saw 'streaks' falling from it or mistook it for a weather balloon.
  • Petoria & Cincinnati (November 24th): A formation of 4 UFOs was observed with binoculars at 5:15 AM. In Cincinnati, a glowing round UFO was seen passing from north to south at 6:30 AM, and another from south to north at 7:30 AM. This event was detailed in the 'Cincinnati Post and Times Star'.
  • Medford, Oregon (December 6th): A UFO emitted rotating beams of light and remained stationary until a traffic plane approached, after which it disappeared. This was reported in the 'Medford Mail Tribune' on December 7th.
  • Medford, Oregon (December 8th): A clear UFO was stationary over southwestern Medford. Witnesses compared it to a 3-meter high 'Christmas tree', wider than it was tall. This was also reported in the 'Medford Mail Tribune'.

Case Study: Spaceship or What?

This section details a photographic case from Denmark, involving a letter from Mr. H. Pedersen of Ørslev-Vester, dated January 8th, 1961. He sent a photograph and negative taken in August or September 1960 while he and his son were photographing in their garden near a shop. They noticed an unusually bright sky behind the sun, creating a halo effect. Although he initially thought it was a photographic error, upon closer examination, he questioned if it could be a spaceship or a 'plate'. He noted that they did not see anything unusual at the time of taking the picture.

The technical data for the photograph were provided: Zeiss-Ikon Ikonta M camera, f/35, 75mm lens, 6x6 format, Vida Pan 17/10 Din film, shutter speed 1/50 sec., and a 'guldskive' (gold disc) setting.

The photographic department's analysis, conducted by E. Slei and dated March 7th, 1961, stated that upon microscopic examination, the object was found on the 'hindesiden' (back side) of the negative. This implied the object was photographed even though it was invisible to the photographer. The image was a backlight photo, likely intended to capture the sun. The analysis concluded that it was unlikely to be a reflection, as the object appeared bright while its 'tail' was dark. The analyst stated, "More cannot be said at the moment - at least not concretely!"

Theoretical Considerations:

While acknowledging the object could be a UFO despite its unusual appearance, the analysis raised questions about its distance and size. It mentioned cases where UFOs were tracked by radar or photographed without being seen with the naked eye (citing Greenland, Korea, Poland, USA, and the Pacific). However, this photographic case was considered unusual. If the object was distant, strange 'optical illusions' could occur due to its orientation at the moment of photography. If it was close, it represented a rare type of UFO. The analysis referenced the photograph on the cover of Stanford's 'Look UP'.

The conclusion was that it pays to photograph unusual phenomena.

Quote from Clyde W. Tombaugh

Clyde W. Tombaugh, the discoverer of Pluto, who has personally seen UFOs, is quoted: "These things, which seem to be controlled, are unlike any other phenomenon I have ever observed. Other stars in our Milky Way may have hundreds of thousands of inhabited worlds. The races in these worlds may have solved the problem of the immense energy required to fly from star to star."

Literature and Contacts

The magazine lists available literature for purchase, including titles by Hiemenz and Adamski, and information on telepathy and 'Ombord i Rumskibene' (Onboard Spaceships). It also provides contact information for the organization SUFOI (presumably the publisher or a related group) across various regions of Denmark, including Copenhagen, Sjælland, and FYN (Funen), with names, addresses, and telephone numbers for local representatives.

Recurring Themes and Editorial Stance

The issue strongly emphasizes the reporting and investigation of UFO phenomena, encouraging readers to photograph unusual occurrences and submit their findings. The inclusion of a detailed photographic analysis and the speculative quote from Clyde W. Tombaugh suggest an editorial stance that is open to the possibility of extraterrestrial visitation and advanced technology, while also maintaining a degree of scientific inquiry and caution, as seen in the analysis of the photographic case.
